words by MARIE-PAULINE CESARI

During the busy Paris Fashion Week,  we were granted the extraordinary opportunity to step into the new headquarters of Acne Studios, in the heart of the 10th Arrondissement. It was a calm and poetic interlude, an exclusive enclave where the unveiling of the Acne Studios par Frédéric Malle perfume took center stage. The anticipation heightened as we approached the venue, mingling with individuals clutching the iconic pink shopping bags adorned with the emblematic collaboration.

In this exquisite olfactive symphony, Acne Studios and Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle converge, weaving a narrative that transcends fashion, perfumery and art. The perfume, a testament to their shared ethos of radical creativity, is vibrant and comforting, both magnetic and radical.

Crafted by the visionary perfumer Suzy Le Helley, it is a harmonious blend of aldehydes, floral notes of rose and violet, luminous orange blossom, and a hint of incense, culminating in the soft embrace of vanilla, sandalwood, and peach skin. Packaged in pristine white and adorned with the iconic Acne Studios rose, the bottle embodies the essence of the collaboration—a fusion of functionality and opulence, of tradition and innovation. More than a fragrance, a kiss of joy.

In an exclusive interview conducted by Numéro Netherlands, we delve into the visionary minds of Frédéric Malle and Jonny Johansson, exploring the genesis and essence of their groundbreaking collaboration.

NL: Jonny, do you remember your reaction when you discovered the final version of this creation?
JJ: I was delighted, as this fragrance manages to capture and combine this avant-garde spirit and classicism. It’s a real bridge between our two houses, in addition to being a fragrance with an aura, very recognisable and distinctive.

NL: What does this fragrance evoke for you?
JJ: Something clear, with rose, with pastel tones. The image of white jeans. Also a sense of cleanliness, security and comfort.

NL: Frédéric, what was your inspiration for the bottle?
FM: It was to create something that represents the meeting of our two houses. I wanted white packaging, very pure, and a strong presence of the “Acne Studios” rose on the bottle. The base of the bottle is painted and, using an optical system, the colour is diffused in shades through the fragrance.
