No Art Hotel; the first festival in the 1.5 meter society

Parties The Amsterdam organization No Art is organizing the first Dutch festival in the 1.5 meter society in collaboration with A'DAM Toren and Sir Adam on Saturday 20 June. During the 24-hour festival, 120 visitors will be surprised with various activities, in multiple locations in the A'DAM Tower and in the hotel rooms of Sir Adam. The guidelines of the RIVM are taken into account at all times and throughout the entire event. Part of the proceeds will be donated to Het Rode Kruis Amsterdam-Amstelland. The pre-registration starts on Wednesday 27 May from 5 p.m. via the Facebook event.     Dinner show & Live streams: The evening starts with a three-hour dinner show where the visitors are divided between The Loft and A'DAM & Co. The dinner show consists of a combination of live art, live music and DJ sets. After dinner it is possible to move to another room for another two hours. The 120 visitors will be divided into four groups of 30 and will be allowed to shift to this space. Visitors are then taken to their rooms where they spend the rest of the festival with a maximum of four people per hotel room.   Each hotel room is equipped with a professional sound system and smart TV with the live stream which is broadcast from The Loft. In order to keep in touch with the other visitors, the rooms are interconnected via Zoom. Drinks can be ordered from the moving bar that passes the hotel rooms. It is strictly forbidden to leave your room during the event and this will be strictly checked by security.     Tickets: Given the expected popularity and limited capacity, the organization operates a lottery system. Interested parties can register online from Wednesday 27 May at 5 p.m. via the Facebook event with up to four people at the same time. Fashion Exclusive interview with Tarek Müller​ Co-founder and Co-CEO of ABOUT YOU.     What is the key message ABOUT YOU wants to deliver?   When we launched ABOUT YOU in Germany five years ago, fashion discovery happened offline: while taking a stroll through the streets for classic window-shopping. Most online shops were just clickable warehouses. We started with our vision: create the first online destination, where you can discover fashion, get inspired and find relevant products that really fit your style – no matter, how small the screen is. Online shopping should be fun and inspiring, and more than just clicking an item into a shopping bag. ABOUT YOU is the first fashion online shop that knows exactly what the customer wants and transfers the inspirational window-shopping experience to ecommerce. The user-friendly shopping app offers a complete webshop experience for the 18–49 olds, therefore, 75 per cent of the purchases are made via the mobile app.     What is the best part of your role within ABOUT YOU?   Being surrounded by great people – that is what makes me happy at ABOUT YOU. We have many great people in our team and doing business is always more fun if you’re surrounded by great and smart people while working on something you really believe in. I always feel like I’m living my dream. I’m very blessed to do what I do and sometimes I feel like it’s a hobby which became a job for me.       How does ABOUT YOU distinguish itself from other big online retailers?   ABOUT YOU is a fashion online shop with an award-winning app that offers customers an assortment of more than 300.000 products from more than 1.500 international brands. We also offer free shipping and 100 days for return, which we know always thrills customers. Moreover, an important feature of our website and app is the personalization. The more you use ABOUT YOU, the more personalized your feed will be, in terms of brands, colors, materials or price range. Additionally, ABOUT YOU inspires our customers with a lot of inspirational content and outfits from international celebrities and influencers.      How old were you when you first started a company and what inspired you to start a business at such young age?   It wasn’t really planned. With 13, I started with creating websites and earning money with putting up ads. When I was 16 years old, I started my first online shop selling poker suitcases and this was pretty easy actually, I did it in my childhood room. I used to buy goods and pack them on my own. I was also doing the delivery – by going to the post office on my bike – so it was pretty small in the beginning.        If you look back at your career, what are you most proud of so far?   I think the main challenge was finding the right people to work with, especially in the beginning. You never do anything alone, you need to have a good team by your side for having success. Recruiting the best people without being well-known as start-up in the very beginning is a very hard challenge.       Tell us something about you that is not on your resume (secret skill, a hobby, fun fact)   My secret super power is, that I can instantly fall asleep in basically every situation at any time.          How do you spend your time in quarantine and how do you stay motivated?   Most of my day, I work as usual and that takes most of my time. Due to many virtual meetings, it isn’t hard for me to stay motivated. Despite that I eat healthier and even cook at home.       What was your first reaction when you became aware of Covid-19 and how did ABOUT YOU adapt to the impact of this virus?       At the beginning in February, I thought that the Corona crisis would not hit Europe as hard as China, however, I was proven wrong. We reacted very quickly however and changed to home office with the whole company already in the beginning of March, before the official governmental restrictions. That worked very well and the team performs great at home. Of course, we had to cancel all our events this year and focus even more on digital marketing and content as we did already before.        How do you think Covid-19 will affect the fashion industry both long-term and short-term?  I believe that it results in a faster and bigger increase of the share of online vs. stationary fashion retail.       What was the main reason for ABOUT YOU to distribute facemasks and what are the first reactions of consumers?   The trigger was that my colleague Sebastian Betz, co-founder and co-CEO of About You, had seen about four weeks ago that face masks are sold at Ebay and Amazon for sometimes 50 euros each. We then asked our manufacturer what a face mask would cost in production and found out that the production costs are between one and five euros - depending on the quality and printing. The offers on Ebay and Amazon seemed to us like abnormal surcharges and crisis usury. There was no mandatory masking in Germany, but it was already clear that the demand for face masks would be relatively high. We thought it wasn’t right that people try to take advantage of the crisis and people's fear and to make a profit with that what goes far beyond normal margins. That is why we decided to change our own production to face masks. We asked our suppliers and brand partners so that we can offer the masks at cost-price. In doing so, we wanted to counteract usury in the crisis and ensure that such people were deprived of their business basis. Regarding the customers, we can say that we are not doing any marketing at all, because we are actually already seeing massive sales through word-of-mouth propaganda. There were times when we sold more than 100.000 masks per hour without spending an euro on marketing. I would claim that we are probably Europe's largest face mask retailer and probably Europe's cheapest online mask retailer, only by selling it at cost-price.       Which steps does ABOUT YOU plan to make in the future?   We are leading the growing market of online fashion discovery. Until 2020/1 we will reach the following goals: become one of the top 3 fashion players in Europe, generate more than 2.5 billion € GMV per annum and to be present in more than ten European countries. Furthermore sustainability in e-commerce and the fashion industry is a very serious topic and we want to be part of the solution, not a part of the problem. We take a lot of measures in this field. To mention just three: We try to optimize our whole value chain towards more sustainability and fewer emissions, and we also recently changed our packaging to material that can be fully recycled. Secondly, we want to push the circular economy by starting to sell second-hand products. In the long-term we also plan to make it easier for our customers to return old clothes they’re not interested in anymore, to basically complete the circle. The third aspect is promoting products that have been sustainably produced. Fashion Special  exclusive interview with Rodney Lam.   Who are you  and what do you do?   Wow, You guys aren’t saving the difficult question for last. I always struggle to tell people who I am, or what I do, because I don’t know where to start. In the first conversation I might tell them I’m a serial entrepreneur. Later I might tell them about Daily Paper. Then that person asks me: did you make a movie? To which I confess that I produced, wrote and played the lead in my own movie. I guess, I take my inspiration from Leonardo da Vinci. He was an artist, engineer, inventor and a scholar. I think he just did what he loved with the people he liked. And to me that’s a great philosophy to live by.      How do you think Covid-19 will affect the fashion industry both long-term and short-term?  How do you see the impact of Corona crisis on the general perception of fashion? Do you believe everything will just go back to normal after Covid-19, or how do you see it will be?    In the short-term it will be very hard for some Brands to survive. If they were already struggling this could be the nail in the coffin. But a lot of companies reinvented themselves during this crisis. Like people, business also had time to think about who they are. Some redesigned their collection; others changed their marketing strategy; and we all got a lot greener. Let’s hope that we don’t go back to normal. We owe it to ourselves, our customers, and last but not least, to the environment to be better.       What is the coolest new thing you have learnt since being quarantined and how did you learn it?   People need less management than we assume. As managers we like to think the work stops without our direct involvement. However, workers can we very effective on their own. Working from a distance forced us to look at performance and it made other things like attendance and effort less important.      What is your favorite painting/work of art and has it inspired you for any of your work thus far?   I don’t have a specific artist or work that directly inspires me. I like the playfulness of Kaws. And especially the effect it has on fashion. I get my inspiration from music. At the Daily Paper Office, we listen to a lot of hip-hop. But in my home office I listen to Ludovico Einaudi. It really doesn’t matter if I’m crunching numbers or writing a script. It gives me the focus I need.   What has been longtime dream of yours? After already achieving so much.    I have two dreams that I still want to achieve. I hope that I will see space tourism become a real thing. I would love to go into space and see the earth from a distance. And the second thing I really want to do is build a successful movie franchise.      As a fan and a regular customer of Daily Paper, I would love to know what is in store for DP next, besides opening stores in Amsterdam, New York and London?  We’ve recently started the Unite Hub: https://www.dailypaperclothing.com/pages/unite-overview   A place where we share our inspiration online with our community. This was a great success from the beginning. It would be great to see that grow in the near future.       How do you see your entrepreneurship as a way to make difference in society?   It’s important to me to think about the legacy of what we are building. How do we change our society to give our next generations the fundamental chances that we had to work very hard for? To me it isn’t enough to inspire. I want to facilitate people achieving their dreams.     What is your advice to young entrepreneurs who are starting their own business ventures? Be patient my young padawan. Don’t be in a hurry to grow your company too fast. Work a solid foundation first. Don’t overestimate what you can do in a year. But also, don’t underestimate what you can do in five years. So instead of making a plan for a year, make a plan for five years. Think tall, start small.   What makes a successful business in your own words?   A successful company is based on a good and healthy cashflow. If you have a big company without profit or even operating on a loss, you’ll be stressed all the time. And if you only have profit on paper but not in your account, that’s even more frustrating. A friend just gave me the book: Scaling up from Vern Harnish. It will tell you everything you need to know about cashflow. My mentor always said: You keep the profit; I’ll take the cash.      Tell us something about yourself that isn't on your resume.   A lot of people are shocked when they hear I used to be a Pastor. I preached for fifteen years. And did a lot of personal coaching. I still use this in my management style. My objective is always to help other achieve their goals in business or their personal lives. Wipe off any excess wax. You should keep the wax tin in the hot water while working in order to keep the wax softened. If the wax begins to harden top the container with more hot water. Ensure you keep the wax away from the corduroy collar, the inside of the jacket and inside of the pockets.   Step 4 | Dry your jacket To ensure you get an extra smooth finish blow over with a hair dryer to even the spread of wax.   Step 5 | Allow To Dry Overnight Once you've rewaxed the jacket, hang it up. I have two older siblings and two Chinese immigrant parents. I am a fashion model, but I would also consider myself a business woman. I am currently studying marketing online, however I learn the most from my experiences as a model. I am truly honored to have the opportunity to travel to so many incredible places, and to meet so many different people across the world. I would consider fashion models as business women for sure.      How do you think Covid-19 will affect the fashion industry both long-term and short-term?  How do you see the impact of the Corona crisis on the general perception of fashion? Do you believe everything will just go back to normal after Covid-19, or how do you see it will be? E-Commerce is definitely going to be playing a bigger role now more than ever in fashion. Companies are now seeing warehouse space as a more valuable investment than in person stores. In terms of social media, there is no doubt we've all remained strong and hopeful. Supporting and uplifting others. Giving generously and loving genuinely. I also believe we've all become more aware and grateful for the little things. How fortunate are we to have a home and to be sheltered safely? I believe that once this has all passed, we will come back stronger than ever before, and more importantly, more loving. I also feel people tend to think of the fashion industry as just clothes and pretty faces. But it is so much more than this. We are a community. A team. We stand together.    How do you spend your Quarantine time and are you still able to create while being quarantined? Covid-19 and quarantine time definitely hasn't stopped my love and focus of creating. I actually find that I’ve been creating a lot more, and have been more active then I was  prior to quarantine. I have a lot more time on my hands these days since everyone including myself is social distancing and staying home!     What is your first memory with fashion? And how did you start modeling? My first memory with fashion was walking the Alexander Wang show. I had gone to New York once as a child, but going there as a 16 year old felt as though it were my first ever time really stepping out of my home or comfort zone in Texas. It felt like a whole new world in the city. As a child, my older sister was modeling with our mother agency, and after a few years, my family and I eventually decided to give modeling a try. I had the opportunity to meet my current agency, IMG Worldwide. After signing with IMG, I was on the way to a dentist appointment after school when I was given the news by my parents I was going to possibly walk for the Alexander Wang 2019 resort show! When I arrived in New York (which felt like a dream) I met the most welcoming team of agents and went to the Alexander Wang fitting! After a day or two, I was confirmed! It was my first ever time really in New York, and my first ever job. It’s been such a crazy but incredible ride living in New York since!    What is your daily beauty routine like? And what beauty products you cannot go without? -Every night before I go to bed, I always wash my face with a mild dry skin face wash, and after stepping out of the shower, I apply a moisturizing facial lotion. I absolutely cannot go anywhere without my facial cleansing wash, face lotion, oatmeal body lotion, and lip balm. They are my must haves!    What is the coolest new thing you have learnt since being quarantined and how did you learn it? I actually learned how to properly run! I always felt so free and unstoppable while running, but since I've been running more and more, I have actually discovered there is a certain form to follow if you want to run faster and more powerfully. Such as, never turn your head to look at what's behind you, because it disturbs your momentum and balance!     Tell us something about yourself that isn't on your CV. I actually don't tell a lot of people this, but I love to sing. Something about letting out smooth or more powerful notes feels as if I'm letting a certain message or feeling come out of my body. Sounds weird! Haha, but I love to sing.    What's the first place you'd want to go when it's safe again to travel and go out of our homes and why there? Definitely a friend's only getaway trip to Seoul, Korea during holiday. I've always had a love and appreciation for the Korean culture, and just Korea in general. The Kdramas, the food, the shows, the cute guys, the energy, the music, the acting and kpop industry, etc. This is a trip I see as a must happen! I not only love the modern and sleepless asian city, I also absolutely love the nature and raw/natural landscapes of Korea. It is a dream to make the images in my head of exploring Korea with friends a reality.    What is your favorite song at the moment and why? Do you have a playlist that you would like to share with us? On by BTS! I am obsessed with the Map of the soul: 7 album! I used to not really love kpop, but after getting to know BTS, hear their stories, and fall in love with not only them but their music, they have become my all time favorite band. I can't put into words how their performance makes me feel! It's a rush of energy and love each time seeing them.    What is the first thing you like to do when you wake up, and last thing you like to do before going to bed? -The first thing, and yes, this is true mom! The first thing I do is open the blinds to get that natural morning sunlight as soon as possible, to reset my circadian rhythms. Next, I always make my bed. Psych and military experts have shown making your bed first thing in the morning everyday boosts productivity levels. It took a lot of nagging from my mom to be doing the second thing everyday, but I eventually grew up! Haha. The last thing i like to do before bed is to take a warm shower after brushing my teeth. I like to go straight to bed as when your body temperature starts to lower from the shower, you fall sleepier. If I dont go to bed right away after showering, I like to study or go on my electronics. On night shift mode for my devices at all times always of course.    Have you ever been to Amsterdam? If yes, describe your experience of Amsterdam in one sentence. I have actually surprisingly never been! However I have always wanted to go. Whenever I think of Amsterdam, I think of bicycles and fun times haha!   What is your go-to work-out for staying in shape? What does working out mean to you? I have actually always been very skinny, tall, and lean. My whole family is this way, and it is how I was born. I will always be a very skinny but also very active person. So when I workout, I work for strength and a healthy lifestyle more than I do for losing weight. I actually gain more weight by staying fit, because getting that toned figure involves muscle.    What is your favorite painting and has it inspired you for any of your work thus far? The Creation of Adam by Michelangelo has always been a painting I've remembered. I feel it has inspired me through remembering we were all created with purpose and love. It gives me hope and faith. It humbles me. It has a message that has a lot to do with how my mind works, and what I believe in with all my heart.      What is your favorite recipe? And would you like to share one with our readers? My all time favorite recipe is one that hits the heart of home, and everytime I eat this dish I feel like I'm a kid again. I used to have this dish after every meal, and after playing in the chilly or cold outdoors with some friends in the neighborhood. It just warms your entire body on a cold day. Tomato egg soup (originally taught by my mom).   What is the best part of cooking for you and what is the first thing you first ever cooked (if you remember)? -The best part is that I get to learn from my parents. I get to learn authentic Chinese recipes from my parents, that I can later pass down to my future American generations, like my own children in the future. Even though I was born and raised in Texas, I still get to remember my roots, and have appreciation for all the  sacrifices my parents endured to provide a better life for us in America when I serve and taste these meals. My first ever dish I cooked wasn't actually Chinese. I was helping one of my neighbors cook spaghetti for a church event, and when I came home, I convinced my dad to bring me to the grocery store to make the sauce for a delicious spaghetti. After cooking for my family that night, I later on learned how to add my own twists to the sauce, and keep a wonderful backstory of it with me. I also learned how to make a delicious and crispy cheese, avocado, and ham sandwich from YouTube. I learned these recipes around the age of 10, and served them for my family on several occasions    What ingredients do you must have at home always and why? Spices. Spices, spices, and more spices. The flavor. The key is the flavor and quality. I actually don't tell a lot of people this, but I love to sing. Something about letting out smooth or more powerful notes feels as if I'm letting a certain message or feeling come out of my body. Sounds weird! Haha, but I love to sing.    What's the first place you'd want to go when it's safe again to travel and go out of our homes and why there? Definitely a friend's only getaway trip to Seoul, Korea during holiday. I've always had a love and appreciation for the Korean culture, and just Korea in general. The Kdramas, the food, the shows, the cute guys, the energy, the music, the acting and kpop industry, etc. This is a trip I see as a must happen! I not only love the modern and sleepless asian city, I also absolutely love the nature and raw/natural landscapes of Korea. It is a dream to make the images in my head of exploring Korea with friends a reality.    What is your favorite song at the moment and why? Do you have a playlist that you would like to share with us? On by BTS! I am obsessed with the Map of the soul: 7 album! I used to not really love kpop, but after getting to know BTS, hear their stories, and fall in love with not only them but their music, they have become my all time favorite band. I can't put into words how their performance makes me feel! It's a rush of energy and love each time seeing them.    What is the first thing you like to do when you wake up, and last thing you like to do before going to bed? -The first thing, and yes, this is true mom! The first thing I do is open the blinds to get that natural morning sunlight as soon as possible, to reset my circadian rhythms. Next, I always make my bed. Psych and military experts have shown making your bed first thing in the morning everyday boosts productivity levels. It took a lot of nagging from my mom to be doing the second thing everyday, but I eventually grew up! Haha. The last thing i like to do before bed is to take a warm shower after brushing my teeth. I like to go straight to bed as when your body temperature starts to lower from the shower, you fall sleepier. If I dont go to bed right away after showering, I like to study or go on my electronics. On night shift mode for my devices at all times always of course.    Have you ever been to Amsterdam? If yes, describe your experience of Amsterdam in one sentence. I have actually surprisingly never been! However I have always wanted to go. Whenever I think of Amsterdam, I think of bicycles and fun times haha!   What is your go-to work-out for staying in shape? What does working out mean to you? I have actually always been very skinny, tall, and lean. My whole family is this way, and it is how I was born. I will always be a very skinny but also very active person. So when I workout, I work for strength and a healthy lifestyle more than I do for losing weight. I actually gain more weight by staying fit, because getting that toned figure involves muscle.    What is your favorite painting and has it inspired you for any of your work thus far? The Creation of Adam by Michelangelo has always been a painting I've remembered. I feel it has inspired me through remembering we were all created with purpose and love. It gives me hope and faith. It humbles me. It has a message that has a lot to do with how my mind works, and what I believe in with all my heart.      What is your favorite recipe? And would you like to share one with our readers? My all time favorite recipe is one that hits the heart of home, and everytime I eat this dish I feel like I'm a kid again. I used to have this dish after every meal, and after playing in the chilly or cold outdoors with some friends in the neighborhood. It just warms your entire body on a cold day. Tomato egg soup (originally taught by my mom).   What is the best part of cooking for you and what is the first thing you first ever cooked (if you remember)? -The best part is that I get to learn from my parents. I get to learn authentic Chinese recipes from my parents, that I can later pass down to my future American generations, like my own children in the future. Even though I was born and raised in Texas, I still get to remember my roots, and have appreciation for all the  sacrifices my parents endured to provide a better life for us in America when I serve and taste these meals. My first ever dish I cooked wasn't actually Chinese. I was helping one of my neighbors cook spaghetti for a church event, and when I came home, I convinced my dad to bring me to the grocery store to make the sauce for a delicious spaghetti. After cooking for my family that night, I later on learned how to add my own twists to the sauce, and keep a wonderful backstory of it with me. I also learned how to make a delicious and crispy cheese, avocado, and ham sandwich from YouTube. I learned these recipes around the age of 10, and served them for my family on several occasions    What ingredients do you must have at home always and why? Spices. Spices, spices, and more spices. I am Marcos Fecchino a passionate Argentinian living in New York who loves Art, Fashion, Architecture and Nature. I’m a sensitive, good friend who loves to dance. On the work side I’m a Producer and Creative Director in fashion. My job is basically to take a concept and, working together with a team, transform that concept into a unique final result.    How do you think Covid-19 will affect the fashion industry both long-term and short-term?  How do you see the impact of Corona crisis on the general perception of fashion? Do you believe everything will just go back to normal after Covid-19, or how do you see it will be?   This Virus unfortunately is affecting all of us in the fashion industry in a big way. The affect is particularly dramatic in Fashion because it’s often considered a non-essential, and during an economic crisis consumers are saving money they’d typically spend on fashion in order to purchase essentials.  I think things will slowly pick up, and fashion will come back in force. It’s a durable industry and we’re survivors. There will definitely be a new normal – it’s not going to be the same. But this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I think we should embrace change and focus on building a better and more sustainable industry.    How do you spend your Quarantine time and are you still able to create while being quarantined?   During quarantine I’ve been taking time to think about my priorities, how I’ve been distributing my time and my energy. It’s an opportunity to stop and think in depth about our lives and ask ourselves if there are ways we can improve and live a healthier and better life.  Normally I travel almost every week and it’s hard to find time to think about these things when you’re constantly on the run, so having this break has been a blessing in certain ways.   What is in your planning or was in your planning for this year and how will Covid-19 effect that?   Career wise, I had many projects lined up, both short term and long term, but the pandemic has forced every single project to be canceled or postponed.  There is still uncertainty around how we will move forward and when, which makes my job very difficult. Many of my clients are in Europe and I think they might start working more locally and not traveling across the Atlantic for 24 / 48 hours for a shoot. Basically I’m having to assess changes in both my professional and personal life month to month, and I’m trying my best to exercise patience and be prepared when things start to open back up.    What is your daily beauty routine like? And what beauty products you cannot go without?   Well . . . In the morning I wash my face with iS Clinical Cleansing Complex, then I use Hyaluronic Acid and a moisturizer with SFP(very important). At night I wash my face again, apply Vitamin C Serum and eye cream both from iS Clinical and last but not least a few times a week I use a toner from Biologique Rechere called P50 1970. When I am on the beach or during summer time I minimize the products I use, because skin typically doesn’t need too much in hot or humid climates, but washing your face during this time is so important.      What is the coolest new thing you have learnt since being quarantined and how did you learn it?   I’ve learned a few things during Quarantine, including some new cooking skills, sewing, and even cutting hair.  It’s been fun. We’ve been sewing masks for a local hospital, and I’ve been cutting hair for family members which is exciting but definitely nerve-wracking.     Tell us something about yourself that isn't on your CV?   I smile more than people think. Also I used to compete in downhill skiing (my favorite sport!) when I was growing up in Argentina.   What's the first place you'd want to go when it's safe again to travel and go out of our homes and why there?   Japan! I’ve been planning a trip there for a long time, and had to reschedule because of the virus.    What is your favorite song at the moment and why? Beosound A1 2nd Gen comes with a refined, slimmer design that is fully dust and waterproof, has a significantly improved battery life with up to 18 hours of play time at typical volume, an overhauled user interface and - a first for a Bluetooth only speaker - a built-in Alexa voice assistant. At home with Pietro Boselli

Men Italian born Pietro Boselli started his modeling career early, becoming the face of Armani Junior at an early age. Throughout his career, Pietro has been a favorite of Giorgio Armani, shooting campaigns for its underwear and sportswear line, as well as campaigns with Bruce Weber for Abercrombie and Fitch. We had a delight speaking with Pietro during quarantine time.    Who are you and what is your profession ?   I made my life about versatility and exploring different talents at the same time. I have been a model practically all my life, since I was 6 years old. So, I would definitely define myself as a model. But for many years I didn’t really think about it. I always loved learning and studying. In school already, and then at university. I studied engineering at UCL, and I was so crazy about it. I had the highest grades in the whole faculty. It is difficult to understand how hard I worked. I really belonged to academia.  Then I started my PhD, and I became a lecturer of mathematics at age 21. I wasn’t there just to get a degree; I was there because that’s who I was. My life was all about work and training, and the precision of engineering. I used to swim, run, cycle, lift weights, twice or even three times a day, and still pack in 10-12 hours a day of research work or study. Funnily enough, I did not have social media, I was kind of against it, I thought of it as a waste of time. Then, because of the many fake pages using my modelling pictures, my friends at dinner set up an Instagram for me and suggested I give it a go. Few months later, I was an “influencer”. It took me a while to transition, as I had just finished my PhD and was still teaching. But it opened so many new doors, and I’m now so glad to have such a platform. I travel, I meet creatives. It broadens my perspectives. I am glad I could do both engineering and modelling, it made me into who I am. So, it is difficult to pinpoint what my job is. “Model, engineer, fitness athlete, influencer”?    How do you think Covid-19 will affect the fashion industry both long-term and short-term?  How do you see the impact of Corona crisis on the general perception of fashion? Do you believe everything will just go back to normal after Covid-19, or how do you see it will be?   I think fashion will definitely be affected in the short to medium term, as it is linked to the current zeitgeist of the moment, and to people’s needs, and most importantly it will be impacted by the economic climate, as it is a big industry. In the long term, fashion is here to stay, it is a way in which we express ourselves as individuals and a society, it will be shaped differently as trends and beauty standards change, as we become more aware of sustainability, but in general things will bounce back. It is the nature of progress, it is not a straight line, there are occasional setback, and as humanity we can only learn, adapt and improve.     How do you spend your Quarantine time and are you still able to create while being quarantined?   I believe in adapting and making the most of any situation, and this quarantine was the perfect occasion for me to sit down and work on so many things that were latent due to my “normal” schedule, which included a lot of travel. I actually am very happy and productive in my own company, and I get more creative when I have time to sit and think. I have been reading, writing, planning new content for my platforms, a lot of which will be educational. I have been working out every day, cooking, and talking to people on the phone, I love that everyone is now available.    What is your first memory with fashion? And how did you start modelling?   My first job was an Armani Junior campaign in 1995. I still remember the first “casting”, I had to try on some t-shirts and take some polaroids. I also remember being introduced to Mr Armani who, to 6-year-old me, was just a kind gentleman with white hair sitting at a large table with some people in a meeting room.    What is your daily beauty routine like? And what beauty products you cannot go without?   It is as minimal as it gets, I literally brush my teeth, shave and shower, trying to keep products to a minimum. I like a good shave gel, but nothing more. Let the skin and hair do their thing and be nourished from the inside.  I work out every day so I already shower once or twice a day, water should be slightly warm or sometimes cold. Nothing else.    What is the coolest new thing you have learnt since being quarantined and how did you learn it?   More than a new thing, it was a rediscovery. For years I have been working independently on my PhD, which is practically like being quarantined: hours upon hours of unsupervised work. It was good to see I have still got it in me. I always wake up early and I am very disciplined, I get ready, my house is spotless, and I can focus on anything I want to do with my day. I think the new thing now is that I am a bit more relaxed. I appreciate time off, just thinking, meditating, creating ideas.   Tell us something about yourself that isn't on your CV.    I never make posts on my social media about food or what I eat (perhaps because I cannot see one more post about people’s food, I really don’t care). However, food is probably my number one pleasure in life. Even more than training, and that is saying a lot. I cook so much, and I always cook for my friends. I learned at a young age from my mother, she’s obsessed with cooking. Such an important component of my day.    Have you ever been to Amsterdam? If yes, describe your experience of Amsterdam in one sentence.    I have been only once, I was riding my motorbike around Europe, I had to get a ferry from Rotterdam to Harwich (this was years ago, this ferry no longer exists). And I had a few hours to wait so decided to see Amsterdam, but it was too short. But Holland seems like a pretty country, I’ve crossed it a few times. And I really like the people and the mentality.    What is your go-to work-out for staying in shape? What does working out mean to you?   Working out means a lot to me. It is an essential part of my life and of who I am. It always has been. Right now, I train in my home gym, I have a squat rack and a bench, I think it is the most important piece of equipment. I also train at the park; I have a big tractor tire that I pull as a sled. It is a very intense training. Being in shape is great, and most importantly my mind is sharper, and my mood lifted after each and every workout.    What is your favorite painting and has it inspired you for any of your work thus far?   So difficult to answer this, I love art and I have so many paintings I like. I have spent many years working on really specialised engineering, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, mathematics. So, I used to go to a gallery as often as twice a week, to disconnect from the science and enjoy the art. Life is about balance. So indirectly, a lot of my work is influenced by art and also architecture and poetry. If I had to recommend one paining on the top of my head, that you can see in London after quarantine, is a set of 6 paintings by Rothko at the Tate Modern (they take up a whole room). These must be seen in real life to be appreciated, like all abstract expressionism. It is about their size and how they change the ambiance of a room.    What inspired you to start your own clothing line called Petra?   I wanted to combine all the different aspects of my life into a brand: fashion, fitness and engineering, with a spirit of adventure and of course, sustainability. I engineer all the garments myself combining technicality and aesthetics, and they are made in Italy to the highest specifications and with state-of-the-art sustainable technical fabrics. If there is a product that encapsulates who I am, this is it.  Italian born Pietro Boselli started his modeling career early, becoming the face of Armani Junior at an early age. Throughout his career, Pietro has been a favorite of Giorgio Armani, shooting campaigns for its underwear and sportswear line, as well as campaigns with Bruce Weber for Abercrombie and Fitch. We had a delight speaking with Pietro during quarantine time.    Who are you and what is your profession ?   I made my life about versatility and exploring different talents at the same time. I have been a model practically all my life, since I was 6 years old. So, I would definitely define myself as a model. But for many years I didn’t really think about it. I always loved learning and studying. In school already, and then at university. I studied engineering at UCL, and I was so crazy about it. I had the highest grades in the whole faculty. It is difficult to understand how hard I worked. I really belonged to academia.  Then I started my PhD, and I became a lecturer of mathematics at age 21. I wasn’t there just to get a degree; I was there because that’s who I was. My life was all about work and training, and the precision of engineering. I used to swim, run, cycle, lift weights, twice or even three times a day, and still pack in 10-12 hours a day of research work or study. Funnily enough, I did not have social media, I was kind of against it, I thought of it as a waste of time. Then, because of the many fake pages using my modelling pictures, my friends at dinner set up an Instagram for me and suggested I give it a go. Few months later, I was an “influencer”. It took me a while to transition, as I had just finished my PhD and was still teaching. But it opened so many new doors, and I’m now so glad to have such a platform. I travel, I meet creatives. It broadens my perspectives. I am glad I could do both engineering and modelling, it made me into who I am. So, it is difficult to pinpoint what my job is. “Model, engineer, fitness athlete, influencer”?    How do you think Covid-19 will affect the fashion industry both long-term and short-term?  How do you see the impact of Corona crisis on the general perception of fashion? Do you believe everything will just go back to normal after Covid-19, or how do you see it will be?   I think fashion will definitely be affected in the short to medium term, as it is linked to the current zeitgeist of the moment, and to people’s needs, and most importantly it will be impacted by the economic climate, as it is a big industry. In the long term, fashion is here to stay, it is a way in which we express ourselves as individuals and a society, it will be shaped differently as trends and beauty standards change, as we become more aware of sustainability, but in general things will bounce back. It is the nature of progress, it is not a straight line, there are occasional setback, and as humanity we can only learn, adapt and improve.     How do you spend your Quarantine time and are you still able to create while being quarantined?   I believe in adapting and making the most of any situation, and this quarantine was the perfect occasion for me to sit down and work on so many things that were latent due to my “normal” schedule, which included a lot of travel. I actually am very happy and productive in my own company, and I get more creative when I have time to sit and think. I have been reading, writing, planning new content for my platforms, a lot of which will be educational. I have been working out every day, cooking, and talking to people on the phone, I love that everyone is now available.    What is your first memory with fashion? And how did you start modelling?   My first job was an Armani Junior campaign in 1995. I still remember the first “casting”, I had to try on some t-shirts and take some polaroids. I also remember being introduced to Mr Armani who, to 6-year-old me, was just a kind gentleman with white hair sitting at a large table with some people in a meeting room.    What is your daily beauty routine like? And what beauty products you cannot go without?   It is as minimal as it gets, I literally brush my teeth, shave and shower, trying to keep products to a minimum. I like a good shave gel, but nothing more. Let the skin and hair do their thing and be nourished from the inside.  I work out every day so I already shower once or twice a day, water should be slightly warm or sometimes cold. Nothing else.    What is the coolest new thing you have learnt since being quarantined and how did you learn it?   More than a new thing, it was a rediscovery. For years I have been working independently on my PhD, which is practically like being quarantined: hours upon hours of unsupervised work. It was good to see I have still got it in me. I always wake up early and I am very disciplined, I get ready, my house is spotless, and I can focus on anything I want to do with my day. I think the new thing now is that I am a bit more relaxed. I appreciate time off, just thinking, meditating, creating ideas.   Tell us something about yourself that isn't on your CV.    I never make posts on my social media about food or what I eat (perhaps because I cannot see one more post about people’s food, I really don’t care). However, food is probably my number one pleasure in life. Even more than training, and that is saying a lot. I cook so much, and I always cook for my friends. I learned at a young age from my mother, she’s obsessed with cooking.
