Maggie, tell us how did your career in music begin.
I posted singing videos on an app called Keek back in 2012 and in 2014 I was recognized from one of those videos and was asked to come out to LA to meet with my now manager. That was kind of what began everything.

Last year you released your debut album ‘Suckerpunch’, which chronicles a journey of self-discovery and actualization. Why did this album represent self-discovery for you?
I don’t think it’s so much self-discovery, but more about the journey through life, good and bad. More a realization. I was going through a lot of different things during the writing of the album and I think it was just how life takes you through so much in such little time and how I handled those situations.

On ‘Suckerpunch’, hyperpop meets glam goth sounds. What inspired this album and its sound?
A lot of things. I was super influenced by hyperpop artists during this time and also was listening to a lot of metal. I was very influenced by Evanescence and Flyleaf.

Who would you describe as your biggest musical influences?
Amy Lee, Hayley Williams, Lana Del Rey and Melanie Martinez.

As a songwriter, what does writing represent to you? How do you feel when you are writing?
It’s my way of releasing emotions. I write all the time, just journaling, so putting my thoughts into songs is like that same therapeutic feeling.

After the release of ‘Suckerpunch’, you went on a tour. What is the most exhilarating feeling of being on stage, in front of your fans, seeing them dance and singing along?
Just seeing it in person. You see love online all the time, but to see it in real life is a different feeling. That was my first time headlining, so seeing every face in the crowd and knowing they are there solely for me was insane.

We would love to hear what made you decide to establish your own label? Can you share more about it with us?
I wanted to be my own boss and make music the way I wanted to. I have a great partnership with Universal Music Group via Virgin Music Group now.

But you’ve also gotten into fashion, with your clothing line ‘SWIXXZ’. What made you step into these waters? What do you love most bout fashion?
I’ve always wanted to make clothes. Ever since I was little, I’d get fabrics and draw outfits in my booklet. I love being able to express myself in that way.

What’s coming up next for you? What can you share about your exciting, upcoming projects?
A new project. That’s all I’ll say for now.
