In conversation with Case Walker

Case Walker is starring in HBO Max’s massive hit and critically acclaimed comedy series ‘The Other Two’, which returned for its third season this May. Last year, Case starred in ‘Monster High: The Movie’ and has just wrapped production on the sequel following the massive success of the first movie.

Case, you’re starring in HBO Max’s comedy series ‘The Other Two’ as Chase, who is thrust into stardom after a viral internet video. How has it been working on this series?

It has been incredible. I would say it’s just about everything you could ask for as a young actor. The best part has been working with our amazing cast and showruners.

Through this series you got to experience how quickly internet fame can happen and what impact it has on a teenager. What were the most eye opening things you learned about it?

Growing up in the public eye welcomes a variety of highs and lows. I’ve learned that it is all about your foundation and who you surround yourself with. Luckily, I’ve had my co-stars Molly, Ken, Wanda, Josh, Drew and Helené who have given me advice over the years and set a great example. In Chase’s world we still haven’t quite seen the outcome of his early fame. That will be the big question as we continue to watch him grow up.

What can you tease with us about the remaining episodes of the third season?

The show gets crazier and more absurd. Yet, our writers geniusly ground it all through each character’s journey. We will get to see sides of Chase we haven’t seen as he navigates his public relationship with Pam.

Last year, you starred in ‘Monster High: The Movie’, based on the Monster High fashion doll franchise by Mattel. What was your favorite part of filming this feature?

My favorite part of filming this feature was the musical aspect. We sing and we dance within the storyline. This presented different challenges for me and forced me to step out of my comfort zone. I got to work with another spectacular group of creatives and bring a fictional world to life. Our director Todd Holland is a legend and one of the kindest in the industry.

In ‘Monster High’ you play Deuce Gorgon, who is forced to wear glasses due to his gorgon powers, so he doesn’t transform anyone into stone and hides his snakes under a hat, so they don’t bite anyone. What excites and challenges you the most about this role?

It’s almost along the lines of playing a superhero. It is really exciting to tap into the idea that you have super powers and snakes on your head. However, the challenge is grounding it all and making it stem from a real place. This is something I always try to do in my work, even if it’s a big musical.

Due to massive success of the film, you already filmed the sequel. What can you tease about the upcoming sequel with us?

The sequel is everything we got in the first movie, but more. We were all closer friends while filming the sequel and this bleeds into our character’s friendships on screen. We also had a better vision while approaching the sequel and were more comfortable pitching ideas. Not to mention, it was some of the most fun I have ever had. You will be able to see this in each of our dance numbers.

What kind of roles and characters challenge and attract you to a project the most?

I get excited about playing characters that are potent with ‘character’. They may be off the beaten path or even a superstar, such as Rami Malek’s Freddie Mercury. Standing in those characters’ shoes feels extremly freeing and allows me to tap into places I haven’t before. In terms of projects, telling untold and unique stories is very important to me, but at this point in my career most opportunities interest me. I’ve got more to learn and want to continue to work with other amazing creatives.

Who is your biggest inspiration in the industry?

My cast members on ‘The Other Two’. And also, Vin Diesel as groot.

When you are not in front of a camera, you enjoy rock climbing. How did you develop a passion for this? Tell us more about it.

My big brother got me into it when I was younger and I became obsessed with it more during 2020. It’s a sport that offers challenge, community, reward and intensity. I love it because I can come home and pour all my focus from a filming season into it. It is meditative at times and also very adventurous. I mostly boulder outside, but I am able to train indoors in whatever city I am filming in.

Case, besides the sequel to ‘Monster High’, what can you share with us about your other upcoming projects?

‘The Other Two’ season 3 will finish rolling out soon and fingers crossed that we will get to have a season 4. I’m not yet allowed to talk about my next project, so stay tuned. I am also in in school for screenwriting.
