We went to Amsterdam Open Air, A Techno-Infused Festival Experience
words by Marie-Pauline Cesari
On 3rd and 4th of June, Amsterdam Open Air (AOA) presented a renewed version of the festival.
Amsterdam’s festival season is in full swing, and we’re still in awe of Amsterdam Open Air festival. As the name suggests, it was a great time to be alive, and we were rocked by the sun throughout the festival. But how can it not be sensational with all these incredible artists? The festival is unique in that it brings together different collectives from Amsterdam ranging from the biggest techno collectives to house, afro and pop, all in a magical venue. And it was a great success.
Innovation was at the heart of the festival, with a brand new visual identity created by 3D artist Johana Kroft (NY). Based on artificial intelligence, Kroft created 3D works of art which served as the basis for AOA’s new identity. This year’s festival included the interdisciplinary club Kanaal40 and other new partners such as Intercell and the underground platform Tropical Lazer Storm.
In the afternoon, the large Open Air stage offered a more pop-oriented programme, with live performances by Goldband, Froukje, De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig, Claude … In the evening, the festival was transformed into an electronic paradise with performances by Astra Club (DJ Tennis & Carlita), KILIMANJARO, Marlon Hoffstadt, DJ EZ, Philou Louzolo, Elias Mazian, Luuk van Dijk and Bella.
The other stages welcomed techno fans with Dax J, Blawan, Charlie Sparks, Mama Snake and the breathtaking and up-rising artist CLTX.
We’re looking forward to the next edition.
