If you are reading this, you are probably passionate about fashion. If you are passionate about fashion, you have probably heard about Vinted. If not, I will be so kind, and give you a little introduction because you are missing out!
Vinted is the biggest fleamarket/second-hand online platform in Europe. Anyone with a profile can sell and buy clothes straight out of the closet to and from other members of Vinted.

Now, the platform has its first luxury trend update for us. The report shows us interesting behavioral insights of European second-hand luxury shoppers. So here comes an overview of the best-selling brands and regional preferences.

With no surprise, the statistics of Vinted show that the big three are also, when it comes to second-hand, the most popular ones: Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Gucci, closely followed by Hermès, Dior, Saint Laurent and Prada. Two other recent developments are that Cartier has won in interest and Balenciaga is less requested than in the previous year.

“With millions of registered members in more than twenty markets, Vinted can quickly identify resale trends,”
“This community strength is backed by our team’s experience and knowledge in the luxury and high-end fashion market, making Vinted the ultimate destination for luxury buyers and sellers.”

Cécile Wickmann, Senior Director of Luxury at Vinted

There are still differences in regional preferences especially when it comes to the buying and selling behaviour. Fendi and Gucci are among the best-selling luxury brands in Italy. And the members of Vinted in Italy can be rather considered classic sellers, while France has more buyers than sellers. The luxury brands that are getting the most sales in France are Chanel, Hermés and Dior. While Brits on the other hand prefer to search for black luxury items. Brands that are looked up a lot in the UK are Tag Heuer and Grey Goose. In the meantime, Mulberry is in the top three most-sold brands on the Big Island. Meanwhile, the Burberry Bridle Tartan Check Bag is one of the most loved items in 2024.

Typical of the Dutch style, users from the Benelux countries tend to search for high-end Loafers. While Céline and Bottega Venetare are popular in Germany, MCM has secured itself a place in the top sales rankings. Members from Spain like to look up pieces from Omega, and buy Loewe items.

“It is also notable that brands have consolidated their presence in their respective countries,

But besides specific brands that people are looking for, there are also specific items that are trending. The Louis Vuitton Neverfull MM Bag and the Moncler Maya jacket are the most sought-after items in 2024. In France, the Dior B22 sneakers are very popular, while the Canada Goose Wyndham Parka and Gucci’s Dionysus Mini Bag are popular in the UK. Spanish users prefer Zimmermann dresses and Polish users the Celine Triomphe Bag and Lady Dior Bag.
Dutch users are longing for the Maison Margiela Tabi ankle boots, originally launched in 1988, and the Chanel Cambon Bag from 2009. In Germany, users have given the MCM shopper and the Louis Vuitton Pochette from the 1990s a lot of attention.

“There is currently a demand for vintage pieces from the 80s and 90s on the second-hand market. As part of the ‘Archive Trend’, designer brands are constantly turning to older collections and models from their archives,”
“Although recent seasons have been all about the late 90s and the Y2K look, such as the revival of the Dior Saddle Bag, the Fendi Baguette or the Prada Nylon Bag, we now go back even further in time. Elements from the 80s or even the style of the 50s, with feminine pin-up dresses or polka dots. This could also stimulate the demand for vintage items from this period and in this style, such as those from Etro or Ralph Lauren, could also increase in resale.”

Designer items such as the Hermès Kelly Bag, Rolex Datejust and Chanel Classic Flap Bag are highly sought after and are often resold for high prices. If you are worried about buying a designer Item online from a stranger, Vinted provides an Item Verification Service, that ensures you that you will receive genuine products, increasing confidence in the pre-owned luxury market.

Vinted introduced the Item Verification Service (IVS) last year, which allows users to have the authenticity of selected designer items verified by experts for a fee. The experienced Vinted team at Verification Hubs in Hamburg and London carefully checks items for authenticity, providing buyers with genuine products and increasing trust within the community. With a growing list of brands eligible for verification, including Bottega Veneta, Céline and Jacquemus, as well as Adidas and New Balance, Vinted remains committed to authenticity and customer satisfaction. The platform continues to enhance its verification services to ensure a seamless and secure shopping experience for luxury enthusiasts worldwide.
