WITH ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK/SINGLE “WHO ARE YOU RUNNING FROM”

Following her sold out London headline earlier this month at HERE @ Outernet and the release “Nothing Lasts Forever” featuring Grimes, today [Tuesday 28th November, 2023]  Sevdaliza shares her next audio-visual project “I DON’T KNOW WHERE TO START” with Partizan Films. Directed by Sharif Abd el Mawla, I DON’T KNOW WHERE TO START is a short film about a troubled, desperate man who is gradually losing his grip on life. Shifting between realism and a dream-state, the film tells the story of a lonely man who is being haunted by a woman he loves and fears. Her devastating presence is the only thing that keeps him company, but it’s starting to take its toll. Shaken by her visits, he tries to seek help, only to realize that his troubles might be far worse than he’d expected. Is there a way out? Soundtracking the film is her latest single “Who Are You Running From” which harks park to the sparse, emotive and darkness tinged avant garde pop of her previous albums.

Speaking on the film, Sharif shares:

In this film, I wanted to explore the troubled mind and the subconscious narratives that can keep a person accompanied during a challenging period of time. Tapping into thematic hues like loneliness, fantasy and intimacy, I DON’T KNOW WHERE TO START focuses on human imperfection and vulnerability in a picture perfect society that leaves no room for error. One in five adults experience a mental health problem each year.

Sevdaliza adds:

“In “I Don’t Know Where To Start” I explore the subconscious narrative of the troubled mind together with director Sharif Abd el Mawla. The film portrays loneliness and vulnerability in a society obsessed with perfection.”

Throughout her career, the Iranian-Dutch polymath has become one of our generation’s leading artistic voices through her revered sonic exploration and unrelenting pursuit to push boundaries – most recently with technology. Her latest work, including giving her physical robot Dahlia a voice with AI and the AI video for “Women Life Freedom”,  blends creativity with technical solutions. Earlier this month, working alongside the director Willemkantine, she shared the powerful video for her latest single featuring Grimes. Thought-provoking visuals of approved deepfake A-List celebrity faces, including Grimes, Ferg, Julia Fox, and Madonna, on bikini-clad competitive bodybuilder figures, exhibit Sevdaliza’s penchant for engaging with cutting-edge technologies whilst shining a light on the quest for unrealistic perfection with a pop aesthetic and  dystopian, mechanic lens.
