On Friday, 29, and Saturday, 30 September, a rich, old tradition will be revived at Kasteel de Haar; the September dinners of Baron and Baroness Van Zuylen van Nijevelt-de Rothschild will come back to life there. For lovers of haute cuisine, imposing entourage and the noble grandeur of a century ago, this is a unique opportunity to dine exclusively and in style. The maître de Maison provides his guests with an unforgettable experience by spoiling them with culinary delights and entertaining them with visual and historical surprises.

De Haar castle
After his father died in 1890, Etienne Baron van Zuylen van Nijevelt inherited the ruins of De Haar castle. He did not have the money to realise his dream and rebuild the castle, but fortunately, three years earlier, in Paris, he had married the wealthy Hélène Baroness de Rothschild. Together they decide to hire a famous architect. The choice falls on Pierre Cuypers, who made a name for himself building Central Station and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. The ancestral castle is resurrected in an impressive mix of medieval atmosphere and late-nineteenth-century luxury and comfort. For the Paris-based Van Zuylen-van Nijevelts, De Haar serves as a pleasant country retreat.

September tradition
Around 1900, a tradition started at De Haar known as the ‘September tradition’. Every year, the baron and baroness moved into the castle at the end of the summer. They organise grand receptions there in the form of sumptuous dinners and fashionable party evenings. Among their many, often wealthy guests are members of royal families and European nobility, bankers, film stars and politicians. The September tradition is serious business. Guests must not lack anything.

September 2023
Once again, but on 29 and 30 September 2023, the September tradition is serious business. In the spirit of this, Castle de Haar is launching Soirées Septembre. The Belle Epoque resurrects, and once again, guests should lack nothing. Upon arrival, they will be picked up from the car park and taken by vintage car to the castle entrance. In the imposing Main Hall, the butler welcomes them with an aperitif, after which the maître de Maison invites them to the table. The programme for both soirées has been carefully put together and, in addition to an exclusive three-course dinner, promises guests a multitude of unforgettable sensations and impressions.
