AUTUMN WINTER 2022 ‘PAST PRESENT FUTURE’

As the year 2021 passes Samsøe Samsøe as a brand dwells on thoughts of what has been, what is happening now and what is to come. The collection is a celebration of youth and the ever-changing cultures that the brand gets inspired by from season to season.

With this collection, the brand celebrates individuality and inclusiveness through the freedom of expression. A daring statement emerges, with bold color pops and prints – something quite new for the brand – and a general urge for finding your own identity provides the storytelling throughout.

Nineties references and bold prints take us back to the past, whilst updated shapes and silhouettes wheel it into the present. And with a recent addition to the design team, we see the future of the brand forming: a new head of Womenswear takes the collection in a new direction, with great references to the 90’s and 00’s. The collection name therefore becomes clear: Past Present Future.

Bringing the past into the present, and with time, into the future.

“We strive to be an inclusive brand by not excluding any sex or body shape with our collections” “We’re playing with proportions and want people to feel good in our clothing,” says Meme Marta Fagiuoli.

MENSWEAR

This season, Menswear’s Head of Design, Gitte Wetter, looks back to the youth culture of London in the 90’s. She finds inspiration and styling elements in subcultures around this time, and the almost grunge-like and rave-like style in dressing that defines the era.

Loose shapes, and over-exaggerated silhouettes create voluminous fits that feel very of the time. There is a nod to the youth today as well, where we see a lot of vintage buying and mixing with new clothing to create a unique sense of style and identity.

Daring, bold pops of colours are injected into this collection: neon yellow, grass green and cobalt blue form a true stand-out range of colours. By way of contrast, there are more sober colours such as full-on black, rich brown, dirty beige and other hues of green.

And as always, we find tactility as one of the main pillars in creating the collections of the brand. Jacquards, boiled wool, rough surfaces, and elaborate, chunky cable knitting adds to the general mood of the collection. It’s less polished, more edgy and more playful than ever before.

WOMENSWEAR

Under the helm of Meme Marta Fagiuoli, the AW22 collection embodies the true essence of a woman in power. Eccentric, fast paced New York City in the 90’s is the main inspiration for the collection, and the collection exudes this feeling; conscious, self-aware, sexy and bold – themes that appear throughout the entire collection.

A new take on the switch of the millennium, and new ways of wearing it is truly what aligns this collection. Oversized is paired with something slim and / or sexy underneath. Bare legs are contrasted with voluminous shapes on the upper body. Utilitarian cargo pants are contrasted with strappy tank tops and form fitting silhouettes. All referencing and reminiscing back to the 90’s – as when playing with proportions.

The collection has a more elevated approach. Tailoring is in focus as well as deconstructed dresses and loosely shaped outerwear. Attention has also been paid to detail, as well as expanding the shoes and accessories collections. We see a bigger range and variety in footwear, bags and scarfs – something newsworthy, as the brand is taking a huge step towards expanding these categories with upcoming collections.

Colors range from eccentric green, purple and orange to more somber shades such as rich chocolate and caramel. All are tied together by more bold prints, the likes of which have never seen before at Samsøe Samsøe.

All in all, the sense of community, and camaraderie is felt throughout the collection. It breathes positivity, and shapes what has come to be expected of Samsøe Samsøe as a brand today.
