Saint Laurent will be the official sponsor of the “i need to live” exhibition by Juergen Teller at the Grand Palais Ephémère in Paris from December 16th, 2023 to January 9th, 2024.

This exhibition, organized by the Réunion des musées nationaux—Grand Palais, with the support of Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello retraces and exhibits many of Teller’s personal and commissioned works, instantly recognizable images, new photographic series, as well as videos and installations.

“Juergen Teller is a tremendous photographer whose intelligence, humor, and respect make his work a veritable introspective game, where flashbacks are both tributes and allusions to the founding myths of the Maison Yves Saint Laurent. Our collaborative work for Saint Laurent is all about the search for origins as a creative driving force.” Anthony Vaccarello.

Juergen Teller is the icon of a very small group of internationally recognized photographers, highly regarded in the field of commercial photography and contemporary art. He is particularly renowned for his candid portraits of celebrities, such as Yves Saint Laurent Paris 2000 © Juergen Teller, his provocative fashion editorials, and his iconic campaigns for various designers, such as Anthony Vaccarello’s for Saint Laurent. Over the past five years, Teller has worked with his wife, Dovile Drizyte, on joint projects that reflect various aspects of their relationship, marriage, and parenting. These works are by characters often tinged with humor and created in a grotesque style.

Juergen Teller is the author of over forty artists’ books, produced in collaboration with Gerhard Steidl of Steidl Verlag, Göttingen, over the past twenty years. A wide selection of these books will be on show at the exhibition, alongside other publications, magazines, and printed media, revealing the cultural context in which Juergen Teller’s work takes place. After Paris, the exhibition will be shown at the Milan Triennale in Spring 2024.

In connection with the exhibition, Anthony Vaccarello and Juergen Teller collaborated on a unique lifestyle collection including homeware, decorative objects, clothing, accessories, and vinyls, each one illustrated with a photograph of the artist. Also, Juergen Teller has selected key magazines that will be showcased in a dedicated cultural area.
