Jonathan Anderson designs a flight-inspired look for Rihanna’s much-anticipated performance at the Super Bowl halftime show.

The custom-made pieces draw inspiration from flight gear and were designed to build volume in step with the dynamic scenography of the show, Rihanna’s first major appearance after a 6 year hiatus.

Defying the norm of performers stripping back layers to reveal another, Rihanna approached the reveal in reverse: starting with a simple catsuit layer, the dancers and choreography visibly construct the additional elements during each musical section.

Crafted in bold red to match the stage set, the catsuit formed a sleek foundation in silk jersey, sculpted leather corset, and flight suit in cotton canvas providing multiple layers and textures.

I’m so excited to have been part of this unforgettable moment. Rihanna is a true icon, and working with her to bring these stage looks to life feels like a wild, wonderful dream.’
