Pictures for Purpose returns with the third edition of its print sale fundraiser, supporting those affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The Foundation, which launched in 2020, generates financial support and awareness for urgent causes through the medium of photography.

Running from 10 March – 24 March, the latest edition of Pictures for Purpose supports World Central Kitchen, a non profit devoted to providing fresh meals in the wake of humanitarian, climate, and community crises. 45 artists are donating prints to the project including several Ukrainian names such as Daria Svertilova (UKR), Julie Poly (UKR) and Synchrodogs (UKR), as well as other renowned names such as Rineke Dijkstra (NL), Inez & Vinoodh (NL), Jamie Hawkesworth (UK), Nadav Kander (UK), and Alec Soth (US). Many of the prints evoke notions of freedom, solidarity, and resilience. Cover Photo: Picture by Yang Ji Hoon, Stand with Ukraine, 2022.

All prints cost €125 and are available in an open edition for two weeks. They are unsigned and printed by Amsterdam- based organisation Fotolab on 20 x 30 cm paper, with a variable printed area depending on the aspect ratio of the photograph in question. As with previous editions of the fundraiser, participating artists can opt to receive 25% of the proceeds from the sale of their prints. For its third edition, this model is a potentially valuable lifeline for those artists directly affected by the events in Ukraine. https://wck.org/relief/activation-chefs-for-ukraine

About world central Kitchen

WCK began serving hot meals within hours of the initial invasion of Ukraine, and quickly set up at the eight border crossings with Poland. WCK’s Chefs for Ukraine response has grown rapidly, and is distributing nourishing food and fresh meals across the region, including Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, Moldova, and Romania. In addition to WCK’s field kitchen, WCK is working with local restaurants, caterers, and food trucks to provide fresh and comforting meals at border crossings, shelters, and other locations along their journey. In addition to hot meals, WCK is distributing bulk food product including produce and dry goods to restaurant partners in Ukraine to supplement the strained food supply chain.

About Pictures for Purpose

Pictures for Purpose is a creative effort by creative consultant & curator Isabella van Marle (former curator of Unseen Amsterdam photography fair), creative director Kunna Haan, digital marketeer Tijn Benedek and designer Raisa Kingma, to support urgent causes through the medium of photography. The first iteration of the project raised funds for a Dutch food bank during the first COVID-19 lockdown, and the second supported the climate crisis by raising funds for Justdiggit and the UN’s Environment programme. www.picturesforpurpose.org and www.instagram.com/picturesforpurposeorg
