Leading Georgian hospitality group Rooms Hotels today announces the opening of the Correspondences exhibition by Patti Smith and Soundwalk Collective at Tbilisi Photography & Multimedia Museum (located on the second floor of Stamba), launching on October 23 and running through December 23 2023.

In collaboration with the Tbilisi Photography & Multimedia Museum and as part of the 2023 Tbilisi Photo Festival, Correspondences is a visual representation of the ongoing project between Soundwalk Collective and Patti Smith that combines art and sound in order to communicate the effects of climate change.

For the last 10 years, artist and musician Patti Smith has immersed herself in historically significant environments and the growing effects of climate change. Partnering with Soundwalk Collective on an ever-evolving series of projects, the two creatives have blended art, travel and music to produce a touching series of works that manifests our connection to the world, environment and existence through sound compositions. Throughout the creative process, Soundwalk Creative journeyed to remote places to capture the sounds that evoke memories and feelings within the landscape, uncovering the histories of our world.

The collaboration between Soundwalk Collective and Patti Smith focuses on eight unique pieces that revert the relationship of sound to image. This dynamic collaboration, Correspondences , will be performed at the Rustaveli Theater in Tbilisi on October 24th, while on October 23rd, Rooms Hotel Tbilisi will launch a two month-long audio-visual exhibition with the Tbilisi Photography & Multimedia Museum that allows visitors to experience the essence of the performance. The exhibition will be part of the 14th annual Tbilisi Photo Festival which will run from October 23rd for two months.

Soundwalk Collective is the contemporary sonic arts platform of founder and artist Stephan Crasneanscki and producer Simone Merli. Working with a rotating constellation of artists and musicians, they develop site- and context-specific sound projects through which to examine conceptual, literary or artistic themes. Evolving along multi-disciplinary lines, Soundwalk Collective has cultivated long-term creative collaborations with musician Patti Smith, late director Jean-Luc Goddard, photographer Nan Goldin, choreographer Sasha Waltz, and actress and singer Charlotte Gainsbourg, among others. In doing so, their practice engages in the narrative potential of sound across mediums such as art installations, dance, music and film.

Founded in 2017 as a non-governmental and not-for-profit organization, the Tbilisi Photography & Multimedia Museum (TPMM) is Georgia’s first establishment dedicated to contemporary images in varied forms, spanning photography, new media and video. Through exhibitions, discussions and educational programs, TPMM’s goal is to serve as an independent platform that showcases photography to educate and motivate social and cultural change in Georgia, the South Caucasus and the wider world. The Museum is located at Rooms Hotels sister property, Stamba Hotel -an old Soviet-era publishing house that was transformed into a hotel in 2018.
