Searching for inspiration for your next romantic getaway or date in Amsterdam? Here are our two favorite spots to dazzle your senses.

The Pulitzer Bar

Pulitzer’s Bar has recently launched a new cocktail menu, inspired on the Amsterdam gables: the triangular upper part of a wall at the end of a ridged roof. The Amsterdam skyline is famous for the silhouette of its gables. You can even consider these iconic features as the proud face of our beloved city. But if you look a little closer, these famous facades betray a deeper history: of craftsmanship, the rise and falls of styles and trends, and true Amsterdam artistry. These are the principles that Pulitzer’s Bar would like to honor through this evocative menu.

The Pulitzer’s Bar offers a captivating atmosphere. Its expansive windows provide a delightful view of the adjacent canal. On the day of our visit, the weather was splendid, enhancing the overall experience. The bar offers a diverse selection of cocktails, including timeless classics and exclusive concoctions unique to their establishment. My personal favorite was undoubtedly the espresso martini, a standout highlight of our time there.

Amsterdam Artistry - Miscellaneous & With Character
While each gable style may have an interesting history of its own, it is the anachronistic mix of trends that inspires that particular Amsterdam aesthetic and feel. In this section, Pulitzer’s Bar offers the same diverse blend of fashion and flavor to match the city’s eclecticism.
Dutch Materials - Local & Modern
At the heart of Amsterdam’s gabled facades lies a strong foundational element: the Ijssel river clay. The clay is procured and worked on by fine Dutch craftsmen: turning raw materials into works of art. These select cocktails highlight the beauty of Dutch ingredients as essentials.
Fine Craftsmanship - Classics & Vintage
These iconic Amsterdam gables have proudly stood the test of time. The oldest preserved gable is from over 400 years ago. It is not only proof of Dutch innovative design but also a mark of true craftsmanship. In honor of this, Pulitzer’s Bar offers their take on elegant classics.
Modern Opulence – Non-alcoholic
There were points in history where gables were simply the fashionable thing to have. Wealth and power were not only flaunted in the domestic but also on their house fronts. These select drinks will play on the luxurious and affluent aspect of the city’s architectural jewel.

Jansz.

Jansz. is an effortless yet elegant all-day dining restaurant serving beautifully crafted dishes inspired by modern-Dutch cuisine and reflecting a passionate commitment to locally sourced ingredients. Jansz. recently launched its new menu for this season with dishes such as the fresh spring salad with zucchini and lemon, the steamed lobster with asparagus, and the homemade peach cake with honey ice cream. Also, the Rosé Garden is about to open its doors, and offers al fresco wining and dining in our inner garden with striking sights of the canal houses. The perfect place to uncork and unwind with a specially curated menu of rosé wines.

Jansz. got his inspiration from Volkert Jansz, a 17th-century craftsman with discerning tastes, a keen eye for style, and an enthusiastic host. He embraced the finer things in life believing that these are most enjoyable when shared.

It is undoubtedly one of my preferred choices in Amsterdam when it comes to lunch or dinner. The menu offers a delightful variety of dishes, ranging from succulent steaks and fresh oysters to delectable salads. They have an array of other remarkable culinary creations that are truly impressive. This place caters to a wide range of tastes and preferences and it suits all budgets. It is truly a remarkable dining establishment. I must also mention the unforgettable wine selection we made, which perfectly complemented the flavors of the food we ordered.
