At the Ballon d’Or® 2023 ceremony, international football legends, Lionel Messi and AItana Bonmatí, were awarded the world’s most prestigious footballing honour, presented in their respective Louis Vuitton Trophy Trunks.

Lionel Messi wears a custom single-breasted tuxedo in a printed black Damoflage wool designed by Pharrell Williams, Louis Vuitton’s Men’s Creative Director, with a white shirt, a black bowtie and black derbies. The look is completed with the new Tambour watch in 18k yellow gold.

For the first time, Louis Vuitton is producing the two Trophy Trunks for the Ballon d’Or® 2023 winners, as part of a partnership with France Football and with the support of Amaury Media. The two bespoke Trunks, which are hand-crafted by experienced Louis Vuitton artisans in the Maison’s historic workshops in Asnières, just outside Paris, are covered in legendary Louis Vuitton Monogram canvas. Each Trunk has two folding front panels that feature a painted V – for “Victory“ and “Vuitton“ – in gold, for the first time on a Louis Vuitton Trophy Trunk, to match the colour of the Ballon d’Or® itself. The Trunks’ exteriors have a classic lozine trim – a signature Louis Vuitton material – and the same brass corner protectors, lock and clasps that have been used on Louis Vuitton trunks for over 160 years. The interior of the trunks features a drawer and are lined with black microfibre, with an embroidered Ballon d’Or® logo placed inside the lid.

Once again, Louis Vuitton is perpetuating a cherished tradition: creating trunks to transport and showcase trophies for the world’s most emblematic sporting competitions and awards. This adventure marks a new milestone in the Maison’s long tradition and proves once again that “Victory Travels in Vuitton“.
