LOUIS VUITTON PRESENTS “OBJETS NOMADES” 2022 COLLECTION
At the occasion of the Salone del Mobile 2022, Louis Vuitton will celebrate ten years of its Objets Nomades collection of furniture and objects. In a specially designed exhibition space in the iconic Garage Traversi, the Maison will present the latest Objets, by Atelier Oï and the Campana Brothers, and a wide selection of other pieces from the collection, both recent and classic. The Objets Nomades will be joined at the Salone by 14 of the celebrated designers who have worked on the collection over the past decade. During the Salone, Louis Vuitton will also continue its now established exhibition of nomadic architecture. For 2022, it is bringing the Nova House by Studio Rochel to a location in the heart of Milan.
Since its creation in 2012, the Louis Vuitton Objets Nomades collection of inventive and functional furniture and objects has expanded to welcome creations by an ever-growing roster of renowned international designers, including Patricia Urquiola, India Mahdavi, Fernando and Humberto Campana, Atelier Oï, Raw Edges, Atelier Biagetti, Frank Chou and Marcel Wanders Studio. Both inspired by the House’s 160-year-old “Art of Travel” and a reinterpretation of that essential spirit, each Objet Nomade is an expression of the unique combination of its designer’s creativity and Louis Vuitton’s unparalleled savoir-faire. The collection, which is now made up of over 60 pieces, will have a strong presence at this year’s Salone del Mobile.
Five new Objets Nomades will be unveiled in Milan. The first sees Swiss design studio Atelier Oï, which has been working on Objets Nomades since the collection’s foundation, introduce variations of its much-loved Belt Chair. The Belt Bar Stool
and the Belt Lounge Chair feature a similar seat made of strips of rich Louis Vuitton leather held in place with brass buckles that recall those used on the Maison’s bags. These are joined by the Belt Side Stool, a low stool with a delicate elegant metal and wood frame. The fourth new Objet Nomade is a four-seater version of the Campana Brothers’ Bomboca, a modular sofa named after confectionery served at wedding and children’s parties in Brazil. Inspired by cloud shapes, it has eleven removable fabric- covered cushions arranged to fit into its rigid, leather-covered shell. The final new Objet is a special outdoor version of Raw Edges’ Cosmic Table, whose infinity shape carbon- fibre base is treated with an enamelled or weathered-metal-style finish to complement its beautiful glass top.
During the Salone, a wide selection of pieces from the Objets Nomades collection will be shown in a specially designed exhibition at Garage Traversi, a Milanese architectural landmark. Spread across two floors of the Rationalist building – originally an innovative garage planned by Giuseppe De Min in 1939 – the showcase will reveal the full breadth of invention, imagination and savoir-faire in the Objets Nomades collection. Among the pieces on show are seven Objets making their European debuts: Frank Chou’s flowing Signature Sofa and Armchair; the Campana Brothers’ brightly coloured Aguacate wall hanging and playful Merengue seat; Marcel Wanders Studio’s startlingly beautiful Petal Chair; Raw Edges’ ingenious and graceful Cosmic Table; and Louis Vuitton Studio’s elegant Murano-glass Totem Lumineux.
To continue the celebration of the Objets Nomades, Atelier Oï’s delightful leather Origami flowers will also be on display in Louis Vuitton flower kiosks in central Milan, while specially branded newspaper kiosks will feature books published
by the Maison.
Finally, Louis Vuitton’s presence in Milan will be capped off by this year’s exhibition of nomadic architecture. After Charlotte Perriand’s La Maison au bord de l’eau (2015), Matti Suuronen’s Futuro House (2017), George Candilis’s Hexacube (2018), and Shigeru Ban’s Paper Temporary Studio (2019), this year, the Maison is bringing the Nova House to Milan. Designed in 1972 by architects Michel Hudrisier and M. Roma for Studio Rochel, the Nova House is a striking ovoid “living pod”, with a steel frame covered with 180 made-to-measure aluminium-alloy strips. The building, which packs two bedrooms, living room, kitchen and bathroom into its 45m2, will be on view for the duration of the Salone.
The Louis Vuitton Objets Nomades exhibition will be open at Garage Traversi, via Bagutta 2, 20121 Milan, June 7th, 2.00pm-6.00pm, June 8th-12th 10am to 8pm.
The Nova House will be on display at Piazza San Babila, Milan, from 7th to 12th June 2022.
