Levi’s® and NIGO announce latest collaboration, launching this spring. This new collection will be the third in a series of reproductions of items from the archive and is the continuation of the HUMAN MADE projects of the past two years.

In 2023, Levi’s 501® jeans, a global style icon, will celebrate its 150th anniversary. What started in 1873 as a patent for copper rivets on work trousers evolved over the years into one of the most iconic, democratic and influential pieces of clothing ever. To commemorate this historic milestone, Levi’s® decided to team up with NIGO and put a new spin on the favorite items from his personal archive.

Known as the founder of Japanese streetwear and a regular denim fan, NIGO has been collecting unique vintage Levi’s® for decades. This enabled him to compile one of the largest personal collections in the world. This spring, Levi’s® enters a new collaboration with NIGO: his favorite archive pieces have been updated within a new collection, inspired by the past and with a view to the future.

The collection consists of two pieces: the 501® jeans with hickory stripes and a 557XX trucker jacket with the same print. Both items were made in Japan using traditional techniques. Crafted in 13 oz, Shrink-to-Fit™ selvedge denim with hickory stripes (developed specifically for this collection), the 501® features classic details such as the red Levi’s® label, the iconic buttons, the back patch with the two horses and the bow stitching on the back pockets. It comes in a vintage wash with distinctive seams and buttons that match the original pants from the archive.

The 557XX trucker jacket is also made in 13 oz selvedge denim with hickory stripes, with an anti-shrink treatment and special seams, specifics and a vintage wash inspired by the 501®. Each item in the collection comes with a special anniversary edition of the Levi’s® x NIGO tote bag and a co-branded hang tag.

The new Levi’s® x NIGO collection is presented in a short campaign video, launched in NIGO’s home base. The video depicts the theme “The future lies in the past” and portrays a young NIGO, dressed in the items of his collection, exploring meaningful places and activities from his childhood in a bumper car.
