Daniela Melchior has quickly established herself as a well-respected and highly versatile international actress. Most recently, we’ve been able to se her in Amazon Prime’s ‘Roaf House’ opposite Jake Gyllenhall. 2023 was one of the best years of her career, with her roles in ‘Fast X’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3’.

Daniela, we’ve most recently seen you in ‘Road House’. How was your experience of being in this action packed film?

It was a whole bunch of firsts for me. First time throwing punches, first time in intense fight scenes, and even my first time surrounded by all that male energy in the middle of the ocean. Learning to scuba dive and ride a speedboat was a blast. I Left the Dominican Republic with a ton of new skills.

What was the most memorable thing from this set, working with Jake Gyllenhaal?

I have so many awesome memories from both on and off set with not just Jake, but the whole cast. However, if I had to pick one standout moment, it would be the days when I wasn’t filming, but tagged along to set with some friends who were visiting me in the Dominican Republic. We got to watch Jake and Connor’s fight scenes and it was a blast.

Last year was a big one in your career, with you starring in two well known franchises’ newest installments, ‘Fast X’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’. How did you take it all in, from filming, excitement of the films being released, and media attention that brought?

It was a whirlwind from start to finish. Filming was intense, seeing the movies come alive was surreal, and the media frenzy was a trip. Press tours were a blast, reconnecting with the cast and promoting projects that I’m still so passionate about. I feel super grateful for all the love and support from the fans and the industry.

Which project would you say opened the most doors in your career, for you to get where you are today?

Definitely ‘The Suicide Squad’. It was my big international break and put me on the map. Signing with a top US agency during filming was a game-changer. And ‘Ratcatcher 2’ opened up a lot of doors for me post-Squad.

In your American debut in ‘The Suicide Squad’ you starred opposite Margot Robbie, Idris Elba and John Cena. Did knowing you’ll be working with these iconic actors put any additional pressure on you?

No pressure from the big names, just a ton of curiosity about working and connecting with them. The real pressure came from acting in a non-native language for the first time. Luckily, the cast was amazing and James Gunn made the whole process seamless.

Before expanding your career internationally, you’ve worked on TV and film in Portugal. What do you love the most about Portugese productions?

Portuguese productions hold a special place for me. The sense of community, authenticity and the playful energy on set are unmatched. Working with talented people from my homeland is always special and for me that door is still open.

How has your life changed since you’ve started to work on international, Hollywood productions?

It’s been a game-changer professionally. Having the freedom to choose projects and not rush for money has been liberating. My everyday life has a touch of pride from my home country, but mostly, it’s just about doing what I love and pushing my acting career forward.

What would you say is the biggest career goal you’ve already achieved, and what is the one you would like to achieve next?

Working on international productions alongside such big names was never a goal, but it happened. Next up, I’d love to dive into producing and maybe even try my hand at directing one day.

When not working, what are your biggest passions in life?

Spending time with family, friends and my furry friend Heidi is a must. I’m all about self-improvement, physically, mentally and spiritually. I love to exercise, meditate, watch documentaries, watch movie classics, but also stay updated on the latest movies and series. Traveling to unwind, discover new cultures, make new friends, dance and have fun tops my list too.

What is coming up next for you? What can you share with us about your upcoming projects?

Keeping it a bit mysterious, but I can hint at a chill summer ahead with some exciting news on the way.
