The 2024 festival season is heating up, and BACARDÍ is making waves at Amsterdam Open Air. Known for its vibrant Caribbean spirit, BACARDÍ teamed up with Vunzige Deuntjes to deliver a surprise performance by Bokoesam. CASA BACARDÍ brought its signature excitement to the festival, thrilling the crowd on Saturday evening when Bokoesam took the stage unexpectedly. Fans enjoyed an up-close show filled with his energy and hits.

After this electrifying performance, we had the chance to sit down with Bokoesam to discuss the experience and his journey as an artist.

How did it feel to be part of the BACARDÍ festival season and surprise the crowd with your performance at Amsterdam Open Air?

It was a really nice experience, especially the brunch. We had good food, it was a nice vibe, good BACARDÍ cocktails, and then we proceeded to head down to Open Air. It was so fun to surprise the audience.

Can you share insights about your latest music projects and how the audience responded to them during your performance?

I am currently working on a lot of new music and performed my latest single “Done With Me.” It’s good vibe music, and you can really feel that energy coming back from the audience.

What inspired you to give a surprise show at CASA BACARDÍ, and how did you prepare for it?

BACARDÍ asked me to do it, and I was super excited. I love the idea of being a surprise act. As a guest, it’s always fun when an unexpected performer shows up. For preparation, I always work with my DJ to tailor our set to the festival. For the Casa Bacardi stage, it made perfect sense to focus on Dancehall and upbeat songs, and we crafted our set accordingly.

What does music mean to you personally, and how do you convey that to your audience during performances?

Music is a way to transport your emotions to other people, and I think that’s very powerful. If you have a party song, you want the audience to party. Without music, I’d be very unhappy. It’s something I consume daily, not just as a performer. I try to implement this in my shows as well. I want my audience to feel like a part of my show.

Which artists or genres have had the biggest impact on your musical style and career?

Dancehall and Hip Hop have had the biggest impact. Vybez Kartel is, in my opinion, one of the best to ever do it, which you can hear in my music. In Hip Hop, Lil Wayne and Young Thug have also influenced my style.

How important is audience interaction for you during a festival performance?

It’s the most important thing. You have to make the public a part of your show. You’re doing it for them. This can be done by having fun on stage. It’s impossible to give everyone the same amount of attention during a show, but you just hope you get most of them with you and have fun with everyone as a collective.

Can you share a memorable moment from one of your shows?

It’s always special when someone comes up to you after a show. Someone once told me they had a horrible day, but after my show, they felt a lot better. That’s one of the best compliments you can get, and it’s what you do it for.

How does performing at a festival like Amsterdam Open Air compare to other gigs you’ve done?

Performing in Amsterdam is always special, as I’m from here. The festival is something I attended as a guest, so performing there is extra special.

What are your future plans as an artist? Can we expect new music or performances from you soon?

A lot is coming. I’m always growing and learning as an individual, creating new music, working on my craft, and growing in it. All of this is coming very soon.
