Tomorrowland is back this Summer

Music   Tomorrowland continues the digital festival experience, in addition to the in-person live festival in 2021.    Tomorrowland Around the World returns! Following the huge success of its first ever digital edition in 2020, Tomorrowland is bringing back the spectacular two-day digital music festival experience on Friday July 16 and Saturday July 17, 2021. Tomorrowland Around the World 2021 is adapted to all time zones and will again bring together a stellar line-up featuring the planet’s biggest names in electronic dance music and the world’s best technology in 3D design, video production and special effects. Already confirmed to be part of this year’s digital festival are world-class artists Adam Beyer, Armin van Buuren, Claptone, Nicky Romero and Tale Of Us. Ticket sales started on Thursday May 6 at 15:00 CEST on tomorrowland.com.   The digital festival is open to people of all ages and places, unfazed by any borders or boundaries and ready to welcome hundreds of thousands of People of Tomorrow from across the globe – in addition to Tomorrowland’s in-person live festival at the Holy Grounds in Belgium (August 27-29 & September 3-5, 2021). Tomorrowland remains hopeful and optimistic that the live version of the festival can go ahead at the end of the summer. The festival organization continues to be working closely and positively with the local & national governments and experts, expecting more news by the end of May.   Revisiting last year’s popular newly created location, Tomorrowland will reopen the doors of its beloved new home Pāpiliōnem. The magical island will welcome the People of Tomorrow from all corners of the world, featuring plenty of brand-new and even more astonishing stages which have been specially created and designed by the creative team and 3D artists behind Tomorrowland. Festival visitors will be able to navigate easily through Pāpiliōnem with a PC, laptop, smartphone or tablet – you don’t need special VR goggles – and explore the entire festival site with all the different stages and points of interest in an interactive way together with friends. Each stage will feature music from the world’s best artists in dance and electronic music – from all genres – and a large portion of the fireworks and laser shows characteristic of Tomorrowland.     Last year’s inaugural digital edition of Tomorrowland Around the World was considered a huge success, providing a pandemic-friendly alternative for music fans across the globe. Tomorrowland now wants to make its groundbreaking and pioneering digital festival a yearly tradition – existing in addition to the in-person live festivals. Tomorrowland Around the World 2020 won the prestigious FWA of the Month (the largest online award program in digital design and development) and Tomorrowland’s digital New Year’s Eve celebration was recognized as a Webby Honoree at the 25th Annual Webby Awards (the leading international award honoring excellence on the internet), while the festival’s Belgian founders were named Billboard Change Agents, being praised for their ability to find innovative ways of bringing Tomorrowland into the new reality in less than 2,5 months.     Festivalgoers are invited to experience this year’s unique digital event together with friends: dressing up with your best festival outfit, putting up tents or a big screen in your back garden, inviting your beloved ones for a nice barbecue with music and an amazing festival experience, decorating your balcony or throwing a party in your living room – this weekend is all about uniting through the power of music in a responsible and safe way.      Tomorrowland Around the World 2021 ·     Friday July 16 and Saturday July 17, 2021 ·     Friday between 19:00 and 01:00, Saturday between 17:00 and 02:00 – adapted to all time zones ·     Open for people of all ages and places ·     Exclusively on tomorrowland.com ·     Ticket sales start on Thursday May 6 at 15:00 CEST ontomorrowland.com ·     Coming soon: theme announcement, full line-up, special artist announcements and stage announcements. ·     Info and updates: tomorrowland.com   Tomorrowland continues the digital festival experience, in addition to the in-person live festival in 2021.    Tomorrowland Around the World returns! Fashion + Design Festival Arnhem 2021 (FDFA)re- examines the PURPOSE of the current fashion system

Exhibition Arnhem, March 24, a new year, and a new world due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, a time when people are looking en masse for a new form of reflection and immaterial possession through meaning, or PURPOSE.     Fashion + Design Festival Arnhem this year, together with designers and artists, investigates in a hybrid festival format how the desire for meaning manifests itself in fashion and design. And how the fashion system is reinventing itself.     The festival is all about PURPOSE, but certainly also about REPURPOSE and a reset of the fashion system in a contemplative way. The festival zooms in on the way in which fashion and product design responds to the changing focus from material to immaterial happiness and meaning, based on the ten dimensions.     The ten dimensions refer to domains such as consumption, equality, ratio, emotion, empathy and are derived from the Tree of Life of the Kabbalistic teaching, with the aim of finding a perfect balance through a combination of these dimensions, allowing visitors to see that contemporary ideas about meaning, sustainability and the fashion system, are not black and white, but rather look for a new balance.     FDFA offers a high-quality hybrid festival from June 3 to July 3, 2021, where online and offline events alternate and complement each other. Every week a number of dimensions from the overarching theme 'PURPOSE' are highlighted. FDFA offers depth on the theme every week by means of videos and hybrid events. The programming takes place mainly on Thursdays and Fridays in June and is organized in collaboration with partners of the FDFA.   The digital program consists of an opening week with designer talks on the theme PURPOSE within the ten dimensions. Throughout the month, the FDFA presents digital programs, such as video interviews with the talents within the dimensions, how they create videos about the creative process and craft with local Arnhem designers and substantive visual installations. The FDFA lets experts talk about the hacks for a sustainable, upcycled wardrobe, and where clothing comes from.     The FDFA gives a seminar on PURPOSE & RE-PURPOSE and within the themes talks are hosted about sustainable projects such as The Linen Project and Fashion For Good about the future of circular design and new biobased materials. The Linen Project is investigating whether it is possible to start the local production of flax, linen and (linen) products in a sustainable manner in the Netherlands, so that the quality and origin of the products can be brought back to a local level. On the interactive parts, workshops are given in crafts such as screen printing and knitting. During the Fashion Month, the final exam students of ArtEZ University of Arts and Rijn IJssel Creative Industry will show their graduation collections.   The physical program of the FDFA will consist of local, small-scale events with the local partners, a tour along different dimensions through the city, which can be taken alone, and a shop exhibition ArtEZ Toile de Luxe will be photos of ArtEZ Fashion Design Bachelor students. exhibited at various locations in the city center and the Modekwartier. Together with the PURPOSE exhibition, these form a route through the city. The program is continuous in the month of June.   The FDFA fulfills a regional platform function in the field of fashion, which links regional professionals and organizations in fashion and design and communicates current fashion and design themes. The role of the designer in the interaction with the user is central to the festival. This happens to a large extent during June Fashion Month, when FDFA bundles various initiatives and presents them to the outside world together.     The last generations in the Netherlands have grown up in a consumer society in which fast fashion, rapid trend changes and mass consumption are the norm. Property and capital are equivalent to wealth in today's Western culture. Due to the internet and social media, beauty ideals are taking on more and more unnatural forms worldwide. Driven by algorithms, the pressure to live up to these ideals is mounting. The performance society dictates an unending quest for perfection, but the downside of the quest is an increase in burnouts. And the use of antidepressants and drugs is on the rise. At the same time, a counter-movement is emerging in which the interest in mindfulness and yoga expresses itself in a search for a deeper form of meaning. In short, this group wants to rethink today's performance society. And they are trying to change the consumption patterns that underlie it.   The University of Utah concluded that spiritual experiences cause the brain to produce dopamine and provide much the same pleasure as with sex, gambling and the use of stimulants. More than ever, we seem to be looking for meaning and happiness in our lives. Happiness that we apparently don't find in our current, busy performance society. Following this trend, the Fashion + Design Festival Arnhem this year focuses on the theme of meaning with its participating designers, artists, partners and the public on the basis of the ten dimensions.     Credits: Photography: Wendelien Daan © 2020 Styling: Mary-Lou Berkulin Models: Lisette Ros, Liv ten Thije, Robin Griffin Assistant Photo: Robin Griffin Arnhem, March 24, a new year, and a new world due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, a time when people are looking en masse for a new form of reflection and immaterial possession through meaning, or PURPOSE.     Fashion + Design Festival Arnhem this year, together with designers and artists, investigates in a hybrid festival format how the desire for meaning manifests itself in fashion and design. In conversation with Florian Picasso

Events A few weeks a go we had a delight speaking with Florian Picasso about his new projects and very special event he hosted on the 20th of February in Cannes.       Please tell our readers about your special event, that was on 20th February, and what inspired you to create such a cool event?   The event was a DJ set at our villa in Cannes, which is also known as villa Californie, where my great grandfather by adoption used to live and paint and we did it in our living room, today's living room. But when Picasso lived there, it was an atelier actually. So, we emptied the room and made it like if it was set in another year. I played the DJ set, jointly with the graphic artist Cyril Kongo, who painted a few pieces.    Cyril Kongo is a pioneer of the street art graffiti in France and he's the one who actually kind of developed this art back in the eighties. I respect him a lot, his life is not similar, but he's also Vietnamese. He moved to the Republic of Congo and that's why that’s his nickname, Cyril Kongo. He then came to France and since then he's been on the road, he's been collaborating with Hermes, Chanel and many more other brands. I really, really liked what he's been doing. And we had this project actually since Bali, we met in Bali two years ago. And then during Covid, you obviously have a lot of time to think of out of the box projects. This project of me doing a DJ set and Cyril the painting, we were meant to do it in Vietnam actually. But in the end, it didn’t happen. So I was like, okay, let's do it in Cannes in the Pablo Picasso atelier. And he said that's amazing because he is a huge fan of a Pablo Picasso. So it's a big opportunity for him as an artist. And we did it together with Pioneer. They gave us a lot of gears and now we’ve got paint on the gears as well. And the paintings on the gears are going to be sold in auction with Global Gift Foundation, which is a charity, and all the profits are going to go to an orphanage in Vietnam.     What inspired the event idea and what is the story behind it?    It was a 90 minute set and we’ve streamed it on our Facebook pages and jointly with all the partners. The event was on the 20th of February. We had to empty the living room and then we put some decoration, everything was very subtle. We didn’t want to go hard on the production aspect. It was very minimalistic actually, cause I wasn't able to focus mainly on Kongo’s art because he was painting a few paintings. The paint was going on the DJ booth, then he was going back to one painting. I also painted, which was fun because I've never done it and it's a fun experiment.     How did the current strange times influence your creativity and development of your artistic work?   You have more time to think of stuff, you know, like everybody's on the same page. I mean, just see when you tour and stuff, it's the way you're living and the way you are as an artist. And now everybody comes with new ideas and is trying to stay relevant and creative. So when you have time and creativity, you can do anything. At first I was like everybody, a bit down and depressed, but in the end you have to capitalize on time. Time is the essence of life. And I was like, okay it's tough, but again, I have to use this time to be creative and not to be depressed and so it came naturally to be honest.     What are your first experiences and memories with art and music? And what made you embark on a profession in this industry?   First it was more like a hobby, when I was 13. And then I really liked it and I was very passionate about it. And then when I grew older, I had to choose music or some other stuff. And I really wanted to make music and to live off my passion and that's it. But yeah, it came at an early age, the hobby, cause I wanted to be a cool DJ and have all the girls around me and eventually it didn’t really work out, but then I fell in love with deejaying and music production. So I decided why not to give it a shot.     Tell us something that that you wouldn't normally put on your resume or something that you don't mention a lot about yourself.   I'm a great chef. Usually I’m into French cooking, more like slow cooking style, like in the pot. I like to cook all day. I like the preparation, it's a bit like in a DJ set, you have to mix the ingredients and then you have to wait for the results. I like to do marinade stuff, experiment stuff and over cooking. So yeah, really traditional, like countryside issue food.     What is the biggest lesson you have learned in 2020? What is your outtake on 2020?   Time is real. Because obviously for some people, they think they've wasted a year or something. And don't take anything for granted.     How do you think Covid-19 will affect the music and art industry long-term, especially now with a year of no performances, no festivals, no concerts?   Well, it's great to develop new technologies. I've been in contact with people who are developing new ways to interact with the crowd online. And I've seen people really wanting to take it to the next level, so to be honest, I think we're going to have something, a new branch in the music industry. I mean, you have the live stream, you do that in the music studio, etc. But now people discovered that it's actually going to be very profitable. I'm not talking about doing a DJ set in the bedroom or in the living room, I’m talking about pure technology like Tomorrowland is doing. There are stuff I've seen from people in the industry that are mind blowing.   It's definitely not going to be the same. But there are some people, that I met actually on my trip to Dubai, working on a project and there are going to be some big names in the project. Like big Dutch DJs actually and it’s going to be a next level project. I mean, I'm not in the project, but I talk to people and it's serious and it's going to be like wow.     Tell us more about your collaboration with Cyril Kongo on this extraordinary event?   At first it was going to be only one painting, but we did eight, eight smaller because we thought one was going to be a bit boring for the audience. So we put canvases everywhere in the room and he was going around, so it was very dynamic.     What does music mean to you?   It means everything and nothing at the same time, because it's so abstract, but yet it's so concrete. Sometimes you can identify yourself with music and then you really feel like it makes you feel something. And sometimes music can be the opposite, it's something that you want to listen to and you want to disconnect. So there's this thin line between everything and nothing. So it depends on what your quest is, because sometimes you want to listen to some music and you want to feel something and sometimes you just want to relax and you don't want to feel anything. So I think that's the power of music and the power of art. If I compare it to a painting, even if you're not an expert and you're going to be facing a Picasso painting, it’s either gonna make you feel nothing or something. A few weeks a go we had a delight speaking with Florian Picasso about his new projects and very special event he hosted on the 20th of February in Cannes. San Holo announces new album and single

Music On Feb 3rd, Dutch DJ/producer San Holo released find your way (feat. Bipolar Sunshine) as the first official single of his new album bb u ok?– which is out from May 21st via his own label Bitbird.      The album will be released digitally and physically and can be ordered in combination with various merchandise via https://sanholo.lnk.to/bb-albumpr.   Listen to single find your way (feat. Bipolar Sunshine)   "It's all about connections,"said San Holo of his new work. "The connections between people and their memories, between people back and forth and with themselves." On his debut "album1”, San Holo explored the virgin territory between EDM, post-rock and indie, which, in addition to rave reviews from fans, press and colleagues, also earned him the prestigious Dutch Edison Award and an International Dance Music Award. Album number two ‘bb u ok?’, on which, in addition to Bipolar Sunshine, he collaborates with the likes of The Nicholas, Rivers Cuomo (Weezer), Chet Porter, American Football and Mija & Mr. Carmack, deepens the unique sound that San Holo has developed for himself. Within his own musical spectrum, he finds room to spread his wings further while keeping both feet on the ground.   With its twenty songs bb u ok? is an honest and open album that asks existential questions about love, hope, loneliness and social expectations. The songs encourage listeners to keep a finger on the pulse of both themselves and those around them and observe how things are really going. The newly founded www.bbuok.com also conveys that message as an online platform. Musically, San Holo builds a world of its own on the album, with alternating organic soundscapes and full-band compositions. “I poured my whole heart into this album. Instead of talking about it, I'd rather people listen to it, hoping it will take them somewhere. They can decide for themselves what it means to them, just as it has its own meaning to me. That's the beauty of music.”   New album bb u ok? was mostly recorded in an Airbnb in Echo Park, Los Angeles. It was here where San Holo found peace to make this second album.  “These songs are about experiences, conversations and moments that I have shared with people all my life. I've never been very good at expressing myself verbatim. Words on their own never seem to really capture the gist of how I feel. Most feelings are so complex that it is almost naive to try to describe them in words. That's why I make music. It's the only way for me to really express myself.”     Single find your way (feat.
