Fresh off an unbelievable year of shows around the globe, UK tastemaker Effy links up with grime legend Flowdan for dark underground belter Stone via LG105

Hailing from the North West of England, London-based DJ-producer Effy first developed her sense of rhythm listening to her Scottish grandfather play drums in a pipe band. Building an expansive musical palette, multiple elements have influenced Effy including D&B, rock, grime and the likes of The Prodigy and Maya Jane Coles to create her own unique blend of techno, breaks and beyond. Now producing beats primed for hard-hitting vocals, Flowdan marks the dream collab for Effy who’d been a fan of the rapper since the Roll Deep days.

Meanwhile, MC legend Flowdan’s certified cult figure status has run the entire timeline of grime, from being instrumental in the formation of pioneer group Roll Deep as a founding member to contributing to some of the biggest hits of the decade. Recently elevating himself to new heights and widening his fanbase globally, his recent contribution to Skrillex and Fred Again’s smash hit Rumble has topped the charts and currently sits at over 54M Spotify streams.

With over 20 years on the scene, the East London native has released music on Tru ThoughtsHyperdub, and Ninja Tune, and collaborated with the likes of SkeptaWileyLethal Bizzle and more all whilst launching his own label Spentshell in an effort to provide young artists without resources with tools like studio time or songwriters.

Effy’s music has continued to be a cathartic outlet for the unpredictability of life, becoming a reflection of her feelings at the time and a way to directly express her mood through music. Now she aims to channel the raw energy of her musical influences in the euphoria of her heavier tracks while nursing emotions like anger or frustration to electrify and empower her listeners.

Breaking through on the live scene at a Mixmag Live party alongside Helena Hauff, and Jaguar, Effy has since been established as one of the UK’s most original producers. With her productions earning extensive plays from Mary Anne Hobbs, Danny HowardJack Saunders, Sarah Story, and Pete Tongon BBC Radio 1Effy has continued to demonstrate her tastemaker ability with remixes for Scuba, Earth Boys and Franc Moody whilst being crowned a Pete Tong 2021 ‘Future Artist’.

Fast forward to the return of live shows in full force and Effy has delivered debut EP Not What It Seems which earned Jack Saunders’ ‘Next Wave’ title, collaborating with Mall Grab on Run It whilst supporting him on his Japan tour, playing b2b with TSHA, completing her own Australia tour, debuting at Fabric, and much more. Looking forward to a packed 2023, Effy is set for Warehouse Project Rotterdam, El Dorado, Printwork’s closing weekend and more to be announced.

Now uniting for their first collaboration after linking up last summer, Effy and Flowdan’s Stone draws on fierce breakbeat and gritty-grime inspired synths whilst Flowdan takes the track up another level with his signature lyrical flair. Infused with playful percussion, combined with Flowdan’s crossover ability to meld the realms of grime, dubstep, dancehall and hard-hitting bass, this perfect pairing delivers a stoically underground anthem from two true tastemaker talents.

Effy x Flowdan – Stone is out 27th April via LG105.
