DRIFT shares their latest multidisciplinary project – The Point Being – a collaboration between Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT), world-renowned choreographers Imre van Opstal and Marne van Opstal and Lonneke Gordijn of DRIFT.

In the initial conversations between Lonneke, Imre and Marne there was much talk about the overlap of their creative ambitions and how they all wished to create a multidisciplinary, all-encompassing work of art that would reach audiences in new ways. This performance explores the concept of synchronicity; how we can bring an audience onto the same frequency through a combination of dance, art and music.

Lonneke Gordijn developed a new artwork which involves the elements light, air and wind. Dancers move between the different structures of the piece; intermittently lit up, emerging from the smoke. The work explores what it feels like to be in and out of balance, seeking to define the essence of balance itself.

“Movement is a language, and it speaks to people in a completely different way. We choreograph spaces with kinetic artworks which impacts an audience, but the tools we develop to do so are software, technology and material. It has been so exciting to work with Imre, Marne and the dancers as it is a new way of working for us. In marrying different energies and disciplines, we had to discover our collaborative rhythm and synchronicity. The Point Being is the result of this.”
