DR. MARTENS NEW COLLABORATION WITH THE NATIONAL GALLERY CELEBRATES ARTISTS WHO REFUSED TO FOLLOW: MONET, VAN GOGH AND SEURAT
The collection is the latest in the brand’s series with convention-breaking artists such as Basquiat and Keith Haring. Here these 3 paintings are featured on DM’s Original silhouettes.
Inspired by artist that defied convention. Our collaboration with the National Gallery infuses iconic DM’s silhouettes with art that broke the rules by artists who walked their own path. Featuring the work of Impressionist painters Claude Monet and Vincent van Gogh along with the post-Impressionist Georges Seurat. They shook the art world with their radical approaches and continue to inspire creators today.
Dutch painter Van Gogh’s bold colour and expressive brushwork was hardly credited in his time. But after his death in 1890, he became recognised as one of the most influential figures in the history of western art. Here his iconic Sunflowers painting is printed all over our Original 1460 8-eye boot – complete with brushed gold eyelets, dark brown laces and our signature yellow welt stitching.
Oscar-Claude Monet is the founder of Impressionist art – impressionism comes from the title of his painting “Impression”. His ambition to document the French countryside led to paintings like The Water-Lily Pond where Monet repainted the same scene many times to capture the changing of light and passing of seasons. Here the classic piece is printed on our 1461 3-eye shoe and paired with brushed silver eyelets, black laces and yellow
Georges-Pierre Seurat was a French post-impressionist artist best known for creating a painting technique known as pointillism. His character and work combined two things that were supposed to be incompatible: extreme sensibility and a passion for logical abstraction. This creativity and almost mathematical precision can be seen on works like Bathers at Asnières– reprinted here on our 1461 3-eye shoe.
All 3 artists’ work are combined on a Dr. Martens backpack constructed from hardwearing Backhand Straw grain leather with antique gold hardware. Featuring 2 compartments and fully adjustable straps
