Hotel de Russie, in collaboration with designer Delfina Delettrez Fendi, presented “Do as the Romans Do”: an exploration of Italian traditions through the ‘Objets de Vie’ collection. The Rocco Forte Hotels hosted a series of events to revive and celebrate the rich heritage of Italian hospitality and craftsmanship.

“Do as the Romans Do” offers three unique stories that delve into the traditions surrounding everyday objects and customs that have shaped Italian life since ancient Roman times. This collaboration emphasises refined taste and exceptional artistry, bringing a modern twist to the cherished customs of Italy, affectionately known as the ‘Bel Paese’ (Beautiful Country). The initiative envisions hospitality as a sophisticated art form, featuring a versatile and elegant “silverware wardrobe” while maintaining a focus on the joys of life.

The first story in this series was unveiled at the Stravinsky Bar from July 4th to the end of September 2024. It introduces the “Cone 925,” an ice cream cone made entirely of silver, paired with a specially crafted flavour, “Capers, Tequila, and Mint,” designed by Chef Fulvio Pierangelini. This innovative combination of contrasting flavours promises an intriguing culinary experience, presented in exquisite silver jewel cones by Delfina Delettrez.

Ice cream and silverware are two traditions deeply rooted in Roman history. The Romans enjoyed an early version of gelato, consisting of chopped ice with honey and fruit juices. When snow was brought in from Terminillo, Vesuvius, and Etna, this made it possible to refrigerate it, creating the “Thermopolia”. Silverware, known as “Lunar Metal,” symbolised social status and was an integral part of the art of hosting, a tradition highly valued by the Romans.

“I like to think that food can be a real ceremony, a moment of high sophistication. The presentation of the jewel is, therefore, closely connected to that of the table,” explains designer Delfina Delettrez Fendi.

Chef Fulvio Pierangelini, Creative Director of Food at Rocco Forte Hotels, adds, “I am thrilled to participate in this celebration of Italian creativity. It’s an exciting collaboration with Delfina, who is a wonderful partner in this endeavour.”

Visit Hotel de Russie to experience the timeless elegance and innovative spirit of Italian traditions reimagined for the modern era. The two further collaborations with Delfina Delettrez’ ‘Obejts de Vie’ collaboration will be unveiled over the coming months.
