We had a pleasure speaking with young artist Dreya Mac.

Check out her new single “TIME” here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3S-49_1hWzc

Hi Dreya, how are you? How would you describe your sound in three words?

Melodic, Spontaneous, Motivating

You came into music via dance, do you find the two worlds merge together easily for you?

The two worlds are almost parallel so they merged very easily for me. Dance drives a lot of music. The natural thing you do when you hear music is dance so without one the other cannot excel. That alone has allowed me to come into the music scene with a different kind of confidence.

What’s the best thing about performing for you?

I never thought anything would compare to how I release through dance but I am falling in love with storytelling through music. It’s just not necessarily as easy as dance. Dance has always come so natural to me as opposed to song writing. I sometimes struggle to articulate my thoughts and feelings so it takes me longer to write.

What made you decide to take the plunge and start writing lyrics?

I saw my sister, Alika thrive at song writing and always looked up to her. Similar to dance, I also started that because I saw her doing it to be fair. I’ve been singing generally since a very young age prematurely so I just figured i’d do well at it.

Throughout lockdown, how have you managed to stay creative?

It has been a huge struggle but I’d have to say, myself. I am so motivated by myself at this point in life and I am blessed to say that. After I released Skippin I got heavily demotivated as things moved very slow. Picking myself up after that I think is the reason I continue to seek inspiration from myself first through everything.

What’s the highlight of your career thus far?

Performing a Colors show for sure. I set that goal summer last year and there was no thought in mind at all that it’d happen less than a year later. I hope to continue to exceed my expectations.

You’re able to choose anyone to produce, songwriter and feature on a record with you – which three people do you choose?

Producer: Timbaland
FEAT: Tierra Whack
Song Writer: Missy Elliott

I chose Timbaland because he is a legend but also because in my opinion, he’s produced some of the best hip hop dance tracks of all time. I chose Tierra because she’s a huge inspiration as an artist and I think our collab will be incredible. I chose Missy because the Missy/Timbaland collab is always groundbreaking and she is the G.O.A.T when it comes to female lyricism.

What can we expect next from you?

Fans can look forward to an EP this summer. I am super excited and proud to release a body of work i’ve been crafting together this past year. None stop good music and visuals to come.
