Today, Burberry announces the reopening of two stores, in Saint Moritz, Switzerland and Courchevel, France. Designed in collaboration with the architect Vincenzo De Cotiis, the unique spaces encapsulate the essence of the luxury house.

The design concept for both twists classicism. Rules are skewed as brutalist elements are juxtaposed with luxurious materials to create a distinctly modern feel. The fixtures and plinths are constructed in a variety of materials from concrete to ceramics to lacquer with a high-gloss finish. The core colours of the Burberry check – beige, black, white and red – are explored and developed, while the iconic pattern itself is reinterpreted in the grid-like mirrored ceiling, creating a sense of openness as it reflects the tiled chequerboard floor.

The Saint Moritz store is nestled in the Engadin valley in the Swiss Alps and is a partnership with the Italian luxury retailer MODES. The Courchevel store is located in the Tarentaise valley in the French Alps and is a partnership with the luxury retailer Maltempi.

The stores offer an assortment of Burberry womenswear and menswear pieces including iconic Heritage Trench Coats, a reimagined Waterloo trench in brown leather, a check cashmere cape and the Paddington Heritage Car Coat, made at the Burberry factory in Castleford. The stores also include the new Spring 2023 Pre-Collection for men and women. This celebrates Burberry’s codes of duality, with a playful twist on tradition. Iconic Burberry outerwear silhouettes such as duffle coats and car coats are animated with stripes, pleated details and the Equestrian Knight Design.

Accessories features the brand’s signature Lola bag in tactile velvet, adorned with the Thomas Burberry Monogram and crystal Equestrian Knight Design, alongside seasonal animations in Vintage Check bouclé and oat beige leather. The Freya tote offers clean lines and understated elegance, with the practicality of a carryall. The versatile shape comes in an array of sizes, from the compact mini and small to the spacious medium and large silhouettes. Finally, the Frances bag is a harmonious symmetry of clean lines and curved top handles. Its understated design is defined by a leather-inlaid Monogram motif and mirror charm engraved with the Burberry logo. The Frances bag is crafted in grainy leather in a host of core and seasonal colourways.
