As part of this ongoing partnership, Bottega Veneta collaborated with Biennale College Danza on a new work, ‘When I Am Facing U’ by Chinese dance phenomena Xie Xin, commissoned by La Biennale di Venezia and performed by the dancers of Biennale College Danza, with costumes by Matthieu Blazy for Bottega Veneta. Archetypal denim silhouettes are made with by photo real printing on viscose silk, creating contrast. The casualty of the shapes and fluidity of material reflect the sensuality of the choreography.

Biennale Danza, the 17th International Festival of Contemporary Dance, is part of La Biennale Venezia. It is known for its international, diverse program, from dance world leaders to emerging voices. The title of the Biennale Danza this year is Altered Statesand is the third chapter directed by Wayne McGregor, exploring this discipline of motion in dialogue with techno culture and scientific thought.

The programme features daily events with soloists and international companies as well as the activities of the Biennale College Danza, which are dedicated training projects included in the festival’s programme.

“The artists and art works selected for Biennale Danza 2023 are movement alchemists. Their work is driven by an insatiable curiosity to explore and experiment both in process and performance; through improvisation, soma-sensory installation, radical minimalism or with surprising departures of form and context. Fundamentally, they challenge traditional dance orthodoxies and in doing so release us to experience our bodies anew, connecting our external models of the world with our lesser-known internal maps – altering our states of understanding and experience”.
