Alexander Posey wrote: “There is magic in the old and magic in the new; the trick is to successfully combine the two.” Opened in November 2022, the new Berlin hub named Telegraphenamt  (The Telegraph Office) is the embodiment of when past meets the present in a perfect harmony.

Combining the hotel, restaurant, bar, event space and a private members club, the establishment presents a meeting place for locals and globals. Instead of going just for the hype, Telegraphenamt rather focuses on a substance, individual personality and communication, ultimately honoring the DNA of the building itself.

Dating back to 1910, when the construction started, this was the most modern telegraph office of its time. The basement of the building housed one of the largest pneumatic mail tube systems in Europe. In the past years, this historically listed landmark went through an extensive restoration process. Executed with the attention to detail, it has been modernized yet kept its original charm.

Upon arriving at the Telegraphenamt, guests are invited to step into the open plan room filled with plants and comfortable benches. It is a lively spot where one can check-in with an iPad while getting a welcome drink, a snack from the in-house Japanese Bakery & Sushi Bar or admiring the over-100-year-old pneumatic mail tube system.

The hotel has 97 rooms and maisonettes serving as retreats in the city. Taking inspiration from the 1920’s Berlin, the interior plays with some of the building’s original features. Exposed brick walls, historic columns and capped ceilings serve as a juxtaposition to modern, minimalistic yet lavish approach to interior design. Thanks to its great location in the heart of Berlin, rooms facing Monbijoupark offer views to the TV Tower, the Berlin Cathedral and the red City Hall, Berlin’s most recognisable symbols.

On top of beautiful rooms with views, Telegraphenamt offers culinary experience, as well. Restaurant ROOT opened in 2022 with the motto: “We do what we think is good.” In the kitchen, the focus is put on unadulterated, high-quality products and their creative use. While some dishes focus mainly on the ingredients and their source, seasonality and superb quality, other dishes represent a creative reconceptualisation. Just as the name suggests, the concept is all about going simply back to the root – the taste. With sustainability in mind, whenever possible the products come for the surrounding countryside cutting down on transportation and plastic packaging. Keeping their diverse clientele in mind, ROOT’s vegetarian and vegan selection comes complete without any substitute products.

The love for the product and its source is carried on by the Bar ROOT. Whether it is the tonic water crafted according to the in-house recipe, or the creativity and expertise of the bar team, the Bar ROOT presents itself as a perfect transition from dinner to night.

The circle is closed with Telegraphenamt’s event area. Offering a variety of spaces, this is a perfect venue for creative sessions, panel talks, fashion installation or corporate meetings. All of the previously mentioned events can be held in the former coachman’s yard. A glass roof, high ceilings, exposed brick and parquet floors create an atmospheric ambience while providing a good amount of daylight. For a more intimate setting Telegraphenamt also provides seven marionettes. These are perfect for the interviews and more private discussions in smaller groups.
