An astonishing casting and a breathtaking collection at Marine Serre’s SS24 show
HEARTBEAT – MARINE SERRE’s new collection presents a megamix of seasonal one-hit wonders, rare gems, and golds. Close your eyes, crank up the volume, and listen to the music. This season’s show will bring you back to basics: an animal and physical expression of love.
The show sets the tone with the first notes of Debussy’s ‘Clair de Lune,’ an ode to nightlife and a reference to Marine Serre’s moon crescent logo. This originally transgressive classical track keeps its iconoclast touch serving as the perfect foundation for this 15-minute re-interpretation—a journey through the history of electronic dance music. As the show music producer Pierre Rousseau likes to say: “It’s a process of radicality, regeneration, and hybridization dear to MARINE SERRE, adapted to music.” A sumptuous track that captures the heavenly sensation of a perfect summer day, making you want to dance. The kind of track that can instantly shoot your mood to the Moon and back.
The staged collection highlights a plethora of techniques, fabrics, and silhouettes, with half of them regenerated from upcycled or deadstock materials—a showcase of different expressions of passion.
The runway cast is a unique signature of the house, featuring an eclectic group of models and eleven music artists: Teyana Taylor, Miguel, Aron Piper, Sevdaliza, Noah Cyrus, Yseult, Brooke Candy, Anetha, Pink Siifu, John Glacier and Aime Simone. All jamming together and vibing at the same pulsation.
Teyana Taylor takes the stage as the opening act, adorned in a dress crafted from pleated scarves and upcycled tee shirts, sensually molded on her silhouette. A powerful example of MARINE SERRE’s work process, where materials are ennobled, and two pillars of the house reinvent and regenerate themselves in a mutual dance for the very first time.
Two additional icons of MARINE SERRE make a captivating appearance at the party: upcycled tee-shirts forming a patchwork of reborn passions and grey-washed upcycled camo, embodied by Pink Siifu, vocalizing resistance through joy.
Crochet and home clothes, once confined to domestic realms, are also reborn into our luxurious Red Line. Embracing symbols of care and intimacy, they command the spotlight with a touch of humor, transforming into embodiments of romance. A remarkable couture dress exemplifies this transformation, meticulously crafted from upcycled granny-square blankets, as worn by model Rouguy Faye.
Hibiscus prints inspired by the beauty of Hawaii and upcycled beach towels pay homage to fiery sunsets. Fond memories of past vacations are delicately draped into unisex skirts and revealing cut-out dresses, encircling around Brooke Candy. The original sponge, untouched, shows-up at the door for Regeneration.
The runway is illuminated by blinding flashes as a new, metal-free silver leather steals the spotlight, adding a captivating touch to a profusion of styles, ranging from trench coats to straight trousers, and from the MS RISE sneakers to the Stardust bag. These looks embody sensuality and self-assurance.
Denim is the starring guest of the night with over ten looks in the iconic blue jeans. Serving as a symbol of impromptu night-outs, MARINE SERRE’s denim collection remixes iconic shapes with a fresh canvas of deadstock fabric, uniting in harmony: five-pocket styles, twisted seams, mini-skirts, boxy vests, and short dresses. From casual attire to more formal occasions, moons adorn the busts and backside, adding a touch of sensuality.
