Amsterdam Open Air presents a new edition of the popular city festival on June 1st & 2nd, 2024.

The festival has always mirrored what’s happening within the nightlife and creative initiatives of the city. With nine stages, each representing its own sound, there’s something for every visitor this year as well. Festival-goers can enjoy genres such as techno, house, afrobeats, trance, hip-hop, and Latin. Artists like Partiboi69, Tjade, Kerri Chandler, Mau P, Cho & The Chosens, Cera Khin, Jael, FRENNA & THE GANG, Philou Louzolo, and Rebekah are just a small selection from the full lineup.

Last year, the festival took a new direction; alongside the revamped music program, there was also more space for a ‘playground’ program. This year, it continues that trend. Through art, immersive experiences, interactive workshops, and theater, interaction is central alongside dancing.

Thomas Gurney-Champion, creative director of Amsterdam Open Air: ‘We believe in the power of discovery and play. We find that the magic of a festival doesn’t just happen in front of a stage, but also in those moments between the music. Through an extensive ‘playground’ program, we challenge our visitors to think more freely, break out of their bubble, and make new connections. This can happen in the most beautiful park in Amsterdam, with many hidden corners, stages among the trees, a beach, and enough space to relax beside dancing and seek out quiet spots or the fringe program.”

Collaborations
This year, the festival is entering into numerous collaborations with musical and creative partners contributing to the ultimate festival experience. The creative dance collective Ghetto Funk Collective hosts a playground with theater, dance shows, workshops, and talks; there are also various art exhibitions, collaborations with museums, and the return of Creative Community Heesterveld on both musical and artistic fronts. Foundation, a hip-hop center from the Bijlmer, provides a stage where dance workshops are held during the day, and various DJ sets are played in the evening.

Music
The Amsterdam Open Air program reflects what’s happening within the nightlife and creative initiatives in the city. The festival has always been closely connected to this scene, and this year, too, we see a new mix of organizations that make the festival unique. With both familiar names and some newcomers, the festival maintains its recognizable character as the stage for the greatest diversity of music cultures in Amsterdam.

Newcomer this year is Tjade with his Agrio Club, a favorite for many due to his energetic sets and endless energy. Radio Radio is also joining for the first time with its own stage. For the many techno fans our city has, there will be plenty of techno from the entire spectrum. Think of artists like Cera Khin, Rebekah, Cynthia Spiering, Grace Dahl, and Estella Boersma for harder techno. For lovers of more melodic techno, there are artists like Ida Engberg, Fideles, and Argy on the straf_werk stage. Overbruggen will provide an unforgettable day for true house lovers with sets from, among others, Kerri Chandler.

Additionally, one of the major highlights on Sunday is the Slapfunk x Vault Sessions stage where artists from both collectives will play b2b with each other. Anyone who has attended their legendary weekends at the Bret understands that this is going to be very special. Think of b2b’s between Beste Hira x Doudou, Benny Rodrigues x Samuel Deep, and Makam x Lobster.

After the great success of last year, both Kanaal40 and Heesterveld Creative Community are back this year as well. Fashion brand Daily Paper returns and hosts a stage with local talent. Queer collective Supernature is also returning and getting a new location this year. For Latin, hip-hop, and Afro lovers, Fiesta Macumba, Vunzige Deuntjes, and Afrolosjes will traditionally host a stage.
