Held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the theme of the 2023 Met Gala is Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, which pays tribute to the legendary German designer, photographer, who passed away in early 2019. To create the exclusive look for Colombian singer, Maluma, Marco Falcioni, SVP of Creative Direction at HUGO BOSS, drew inspiration directly from a Spring/Summer lookbook that was photographed by Karl, himself, in 1998, for HUGO BOSS.

Maluma’s tailored ensemble for the event is comprised of a sleek plastron and matching trousers, crafted entirely in a sophisticated, grey-hued leather.

The defining accessory is a fringe-embellished, silk scarf. It is subtly embroidered with Karl Lagerfeld’s words from a handwritten note addressed to Werner Baldessarini – former Creative Director and Designer of HUGO BOSS – back in 1998, the same year he shot the black-and-white lookbook.  Evoking the essence, texture, and pared-back palette of the individual images captured in the photographs taken by Karl Lagerfeld, the overall feel of the look is one of muted elegance.“We’re thrilled to be back at the Met Gala and proud to share this little bit of history with Karl. His simple, yet modern approach to the photography that inspired Maluma’s look is very much on par with the way we currently view our campaigns. It’s an inspiring, more inclusive, and visionary approach that showcases sophisticated clothes for real people, framed in a beautiful light,” said Marco Falcioni, SVP of Creative Direction at HUGO BOSS.

NFL player Patrick Mahomes, his wife, Brittany, and tennis player Matteo Berrettini also wore custom BOSS looks to the renowned fashion event.

In keeping with this black-and-white inspiration from Karl Lagerfeld’s photography, highly polished looks were also created for NFL player, Patrick Mahomes, and his wife, Brittany. The former wore sleek loafers, a BOSS silk double-breasted, peak-lapel suit and a crisp shirt with a hidden placket, while the latter wore a stunning floor-length dress in white with silver-toned embroidered detailing. Likewise, Brand Ambassador and Italian tennis phenom, Matteo Berrettini, also attended the gala wearing an exclusive, custom-made BOSS look.
